Do you really just want support players to quit, Blizzard?

Let’s see, we have…

  • Remove 2nd tank role - So support have less peels
  • Remove most tank abilities - Most tanks (except Rein) are now just DPS with larger health pools
  • Make DPS (including flankers) move faster - So support (except Moira) can’t ever get away
  • Remove most CCs other than tank - So flankers have zero counters
  • Give increased dmg to kits that lost CC - So ttk is faster / healing is less viable
  • Nerf support Ult generation for healing the most important team member… the tank

If I were to sit down with friend and hypothetically discuss “How can we get every support player in Overwatch to uninstall and go play a different game?” I’m not sure we could do better than what Blizzard has done with OW2.

If we really wanted to play 5 DPS vs 5 DPS, we would play Valorant, Blizzard. This abomination in it’s current form doesn’t deserve the name Overwatch!

EDIT - Getting a lot of “Support is just fine!” and “Learn how to play the new 90% DPS / 10% healing meta for support” types of replies. The fact that queues for DPS are 10 minutes and support is < 1 minute tells me that a lot more people agree with me that support is in a bad place right now. This game is dead in the water if it launches like this. They’ll end up just having to let you queue 5 DPS vs 5 DPS instead of 1/2/2 (like HotS QM does today).

guess they wanted to make it more arcade style, fast and dive heavy. flankers and dive is popular with most dps centric minded players. i never liked dive personally heh was always about hit-scans. i guess the dive heroes i usually play are tracer and sombra. although since widow was my main so dive was always my number one concern. was never that good to counter my counters (dive). once in a while i had games where i headshotted most dive heroes going after to me but that was like a full moon. doesnt happen often

I’m dominating on support. Git Gud

Besides occasionally getting bullied by the enemy team when I get zero peel, supports feel fine imo.

Pretty much this, and it’s mostly Sombra that has been annoying. It really comes down to whether the other support actually understands that they are supposed to help and peel for each other or not. A lot of people in live OW don’t do this even.

it is the first beta of several my man. The game is not launching like this. Support players need to chill. There are definitely issues but other than Zen, support queue isn’t the grueling hellscape the forums make it out to be,

They may have even done it intentionally to get feedback and data, and to not interfere with the tank changes too much. If supports all got buffed it would be hard to tell if tanks were too strong, or if supports were just too good at their jobs (which is literally what happened when they first starting doing 5v5)

But what if Zen is the only support you care about?

He is the only support I care about lol. If I were still a Zen main I’d accept he’s not good right now and either not care and play him anyways, play someone else, or play OW1. It’s not that hard. Not rage on the forums about how Blizz is hatecriming the support player base because Zen is bad for 3 weeks.

I played Zen when he was 150hp, this is nothing.

Far from quitting support. Was a support main in OW1, still doing it in OW2 beta. I guess that makes me weird doesn’t it?

I wouldn’t call my criticism rage or liken it to a hate crime. I would consider it whining… And I quite enjoy whining. I will probably still do it even after they buff him because I bet the way they will buff him triggers me. I can see it now, Squashpup. I can already taste the salt.

Aside from a few tweaks/bugs here and there, I find support to be fine.

I feel the bigger problem are the new maps. It takes so long to get back to damn robot and the wide open space makes it almost impossible to stick with your team when everyone is faster than you.

Playing with friends makes it bit better when everyone doesn’t just abandon you right away, but for newer players solo q its not very tempting playing field to tackle.

Also coming from new player, Ana zoom could be a lot quicker now since the distances are like over twice than before and gameplay is much faster.

There are already support playing fine.

There is the need to remove one tank/shield, they want to make the game more skilled based and make players really do teamplay coordinating themself instead simple hide bhind no skill shield.

Stuns remove alot of skill ceiling, so they needed to remove most of it too.

But remember this is the first beta, they will do more balancing, surely to adapt support to 5vs5 too.

Same… because I’m finding DPS super boring to play in OW2. And I don’t feel like waiting 12 min to tank.

If your team is doing okay, support is okay, and will be fine with some adjustments. But if your tank dies first, or your DPS go on some mad flank and leave you to die, support is awful.

I hate being repeatedly chased down by DPS who are (1) more practiced at shooting than I am, (2) have better weapons, and (3) are faster than I am. If the game demands that these matchups will happen more often, then the design relies on some of the players not having fun. That won’t last.

Much of the support roster kit revolves around the team being grouped up. Moira’s spray. Brig’s inspire. Mercy’s chain heal/boost. Lucio’s aura. Ana’s nade. Bap’s lamp and burst. Even Zen’s discord works best when his teammates see the same enemies that he sees.

Flankerwatch Deathmatch doesn’t make good use of these kits anymore.

As Mercy I have to follow someone to make any use of my beam at all, and that takes me away from some of the team. This is fine. Every DPS becomes a Pharah. Even the tank is a Pharah if the DPS abandon him. Mercy’s play style can do this. But as soon as the hero on her leash dies, she’s dead, too, if her team has so disbursed that she doesn’t have someone to GA to and she’s not already in the air.

As Moira I’m dealing damage and escaping, but I’m not doing a lot of healing. Good for me, not so good for my team. As Lucio I’m harassing the enemy, but I’m not doing much healing, and my speed is benefiting only me.

Some of this is fine if you’re just playing by yourself, and the other team is doing the same. But the team that is working together will stomp. And they’ll overrun the supports of the team that isn’t working together. Repeatedly.

5v4 devolves to roflstomp more quickly than 6v5 does, so first pick dominates the next couple minutes. It’s not a fun play style when your kit works best as a team.

OW2 is feast or famine even more so than OW1 solo QP.

Support is fun but are you saying this because the games “new” and “fresh” though and you get instant ques?

well, based on the fact that you have no waiting time to play the slowly deprecating role of healer, and 10 mins for other roles, you most certainly do, and will, forever…
