Do you guys listen to music in the background while playing?

Curious to see if you listen to music while playing or not. If not, why? If you do, what song gets you pumped and into the groove?

I’ve tried it once or twice but I find it distracting as this game uses a lot of directional audio you really want to be listening out for…

I usually don’t, pause it on non menu

Only time I did was when my team stressed me over on competitive so I just jammed for the chill vibes and started playing better

Left salt chat of course

That’s a simple answer; it’s distracting.

music is too complex and distracting when gaming

i usually listen to Youtube video essays while playing

If you got melted by Symmetra Turrets and complain about how they are so strong and ā€œdifficultā€ they are to deal with, you are listening to music too loudly.

I mute music for shooters since every audio cue could mean a massive advantage.

Sometimes… but usually only on QP.

Yes,

And I stream Camila Cabello’s new album Familia

I only listened to music in PvE modes. The AI is on rails anyways so there’s zero surprises and therefore no reason to rely on audio cues.
Basically never listened to music when playing PvP modes (except a couple of times in MH). Felt it was just distracting me from useful information.

No, I don’t. As several others, I find it distracting at best.

There are a lot of audio cues the game offers, from locating enemies through their footsteps (even if that doesn’t work as well as it should), to recognising different heroes through gun sounds and noticing ults, to the game music itself giving you info on how the match is going (how many of you have noticed that?). That’s in addition to the (informative and otherwise) chatter that I get through playing with friends on comms. Adding yet another sound source, and a completely irrelevant one at that, would be just too much.

Not with Overwatch where the sound is really important for the gameplay

I always listen to music when I play. As far as what I listen to, it just depends on what I’m in the mood for that day. Could be just about anything really.

And I couldn’t care less about missing audio cues. The game is much more enjoyable (for me at least) when I have music on in the background. And it is just a game, after all.

yes, i unironically have this video on repeat when i play

I tried that…missed overtime a few times due lack of ā€œdramaticā€ overtime music in game…
Not anymore…
I also rely on game sounds heavily.

I don’t but seeing the number of players who can’t hear a Reaper teleporting just behind them or a Sombra murdering their healers three meters away, I’m pretty sure a lot of players do.

O hey, I think this should be my soundtrack if I ever play a ā€œmain tankā€ again :joy:

Eerily fitting lyrics for all those nice moments in which you try to push and coordinate but your teammates keep repeatedly abandoning your ***.

Once I played System of a Down while playing Mercy… Best game ever, amazing rezes and moves!
Too bad now there’s DMCA while streaming because I’d really like to do it again sometimes, and I only play Overwatch while streaming so… ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ

Nope. It prevents the hearing of important spatial sound queues.

I do when my team is flatout ignoring any calls, refusing to play as a team or do any type of cohesion and I’ve given up. Usually I’ll just play anything loud that reminds me I’m not in a serious game of competitive until the next match where I reset with the new teammates.
