Sometimes I see criticism towards some heroes being too strong or too weak, and people with a portrait of that character straight up insult the OP or attack in some other way. Like I don’t understand how is this possible. I get that jokes about genji mains having katana collection and sakura body pillow are just jokes, but some people are so overprotective to fictional video game chars, makes me wonder if I am doing it wrong when I don’t protect my favourite char being op, like JQ last season.
Warning, this post does not imply mercy mains, I love mercy, mercy has no issues, is the best char, no need to rework or nerf. In fact, buff her. Don’t cancel me pls. Thank you.
Jokes aside, do you really feel attached to your heroes, or you just don’t want to lose the “power” that your char has in a video game, so you just try to justify everything and be a super contrarian? Or maybe both?
I don’t have a real attachment to any of my main personality wise, but I do have an attachment to their playstyle, considering this is overwatch, it has some really unique playstyles no other games offer- yet
There are a lot of heroes in this game but not every hero has transferable skills.
When you love a hero without any transferable skills like genji or Roadhog, when they get nerfed out of the meta it feels awful.
No other hero can give you dopamine and you fall in rank because your hero is weaker and no other hero gets your skills transferred over to. You make do but it’s frustrating starting over.
Yes. Mercy makes me seething with rage because she’s not so easily hunted anymore and runs around rampant because my offtank role died.
Then hitscan, which many ignore half their kits or play them so badly, its astonishing how much value they get with a single good skill in just AIMING ALONE when they have bad positioning, suicidal tendencies, and are even suppressed to the point of spawncamped they can still get the highest dps values through their weapon usage alone.
Headshots need to be toned down. Projectile heros need to be buffed properly to match hitscans quick TTK. And supports like Mercy, Kiriko, and maybe even Moira need to have their healing toned down or less mobility.
They should not have such easily usable escape tools while making entire teams pseudo immortal while poorly utilizing half their kit.
Make it to where true skill expression lies within FULL USAGE OF A HERO. Not just two single buttons and a couple of ultimates.
Not really. At least not as far as concerning myself with other people’s negative opinions about my favorite heroes. It’s all the same to me if people hate/dislike something that I like, they’re more than welcome to have whatever opinions they have.
But I guess I sort of was/am overly attached to Bastion (& Orisa to a lesser extent) in the sense that I still feel very salty about the rework(s) for OW2. I feel like I lost my favorite hero(es) with the rework(s).
Yes, and sadly our feedback doesn’t matter. When you find a hero with a playstyle you enjoy, you pretty much have to latch onto to it and defend it to the bitter end. It’s in your best interest to behave like that as the moment the hero gets ruined, you literally have less options or even no options… So the game becomes worthless.
Bastion’s new playstyle is horrible. He doesn’t have self-sustain anymore so he has to rely on support’s acknowledging his need for constant attention and healing. He’s like a worse version of Cass unless you are hard countering Winston.
I truly think Old Bastion’s ability would have been a better fit for 5v5. Artillery config is still trash.
IDK, I guess I think differently. I was JQ main before she was considered the worst tank, and after the gigabuff I stopped playing cuz I knew she will get nerfed 100%. Because I don’t want to get used to that tuning that I am 100% sure will be taken away from me.
I 100% get that, it is a strong pattern. They will make a hero move three steps forward and then 5 steps backwards. It sucks enjoying a hero’s gameplay and then they randomly become meta so you know that the clock is ticking before they clunkify it.
It’s not a case of being emotionally attached to a hero, but to being attached to the enjoyment that hero brings.
For example, I loved Mei in OW1. Like, LOVED, the gameplay was so unique and the skill ceiling was so high that despite nerfs or buffs, that basekit stayed the same and was astronomically unique and 500 hours into playing her (about 430x more hours than I put into entire games), I was still learning new tricks and perfecting using abilities.
The systematic destruction of every single piece of her kit and 6+ years worth of muscle memory across her abilities genuinely upsets me to this day. I can’t boot up Overwatch, click Mei and get that extremely unique experience I once had and as a result my playtime of OW and enjoyment has gone down the toilet.
I’m sure people who main Doom and Sym feel identical to this since they saw a very similar transitional change (I mean Sym has been reworked now like 4 times and is getting yet another mini rework).
This is what players like you fail to understand if you main a hero and they just get adjustments to their kits (this isn’t a personal attack even though it may read like one, I just don’t know how else to word this without it sounding condescending). It’s not the adjustments that are the issue, it’s whether those adjustments fundamentally kill what makes those heroes so fun and re-playable.
All OW2 has been is a monetisation update and a destruction of unique and interesting experiences no other game had to streamline things and make them more generic while players try to gaslight you into saying these heroes you have 500x the hours on than them are somehow better now they objectively are worse.
a little bit with widow but im not wierd where i have a body pillow, accesories or even a mini statue of her or anything. when she got nerfed recently i was pretty upset but hey im over it. there are 36 other heroes. …actually forgot how many heroes there are atm?
as for hating i use to hate roadhog a lot but im over that too. kind of feel sorry for that hero atm. worse hero atm probably? cant believe they havnt reworked him yet. ill always hate hammond i think. hero just exists to be annoying
Does hate count as an emotional attachment? Because I hate Ana with every bone in my body and watching her drive tank players away in droves because she is in every game makes me hate Blizzard too for allowing this to continue happening and doing nothing about it.
Ana is my pfp and my most played, I want her to be nerfed. She’s broken. Same as most of the supports right now. I’d rather my hero’s be balanced than OP.
I get you’re joking but I can understand mercy mains being defensive of their hero. Literally since the beginning of Overwatch mercy and her playerbase get hate most of it being unjustified.
