At this point I feel bad for the developers of the matchmaking system. They most likely spent 4> years of their lives studying computer science to strengthen their programming dexterity; just to develop such a subpar matchmaking system. I don’t even care if I lose a match as long as the match felt balanced I was satisfied. The matches that I do lose feel so one sided it is INSANE. I have had matches which I lost but it was close and guess what? Those type of matches felt the best because there was an actual fight to be had instead of just being bent over constantly by the enemy team. After a balanced match I am left satisfied and happy, which honestly, if I had more of while playing this game I would probably spend money buying skins because I would want to contribute to something that makes me happy.
I know that the reason we are getting these unbalanced matches is because the algorithm coerces the players to lose so they can be eager to win thus playing more. However, I think this is working against their favor. Players are left angst and angry thus less willing to spend money on a game that makes them feel that way – something blizzard so vehemently pushes with the now free to play version of “overwatch.”
A prime example of another video game utilizing a similar engagement optimized matchmaking system is Apex Legends of which has actually lost players since their huge season 15 update which introduced major changes such as a new Map and character. In October they lost ~50 thousand players and are continuing to lose more. Even popular Apex competitive twitch streamers have shown how rigged the system is by showing the absurd amount of platinum and diamond players they have killed – keep in mind these competitive twitch streamers are the highest rank possible.
period
The balance is so random it seems to group the majority into the “majority group” and then there are people who headshot headshot headshot. Then they call the game balanced because at least it saves the majority from the headshot headshot headshot crowd. Most of the time. But it just seems like even if they eliminated balance all together then it’d be about the same, considering the majority makes up nearly all players and the headshot headshot headshot players only a small percentage. So is there even any balance in the game? I’m sure the headshot headshot headshot players end up in more matches against fellow headshot headshot headshot teams. So should the balance system be purely for the benefit of the minority of headshot headshot headshot players? I feel like I’ve shot the point directly in the head consecutively with this point, at least 3 times.
Yup. I’d much rather lose a close match, than win in a landslide stomp.
A lot of “what is fun” at a fundamental level for people is getting into that “Not too easy, not too difficult” zone, where everything feels “winnable”, even if you don’t always win.
Yes this is huge. I’d rather play a legitimate game that isn’t manipulated and having somewhat equal skill than this nonsense they’re forcing on us. It’s rigged, and for some reason they think people will spend more money if they get angry at a game. It’s insane and it can’t be true. EOMM is a huge mistake. We used to play counterstrike and halo all day with zero manipulation. It’s a massive gaslighting project they have with all the paid shills they have lurking these boards all day. It’s pure evil at this point.
How do you know they spent 4 years though?
Yes. I know when everyone is doing everything they can to win. So I don’t care if we lose. It’s when I see total garbage on either side, is when I’m like screw this match.
Balanced games are about 1/6. And you’d just lose because they switch to some unstoppable counter that has no counters of your class etc blah blah. Everybody has heroes they switch to when it’s not going their way.
I wouldn’t mind losing as much if my rank updated everygame I hate playing 7 just to derank or stay the same that aggrevates me alot.
If it was actually balanced - yes. Because the match was still fun. It’s genuine GG, and I can look back and see the specific point we could have done better.
Most companies requires a bachelors degree which is four years. I put “4>” which meant four or more.
do I feel satisfied losing a balanced match?
100%. if all you can enjoy is a positive result then I think you have bigger issues than losing.
its insane to me that peoples enjoyment has a win condition.
As an illustration last night I had a good time playing this match (95V2MV) which was very close. Just now I won a match and midway through noticed how unbalanced it was (H9KXC4) – bored out of my mind I was slouched over my chair. How does my matchmaking go from (95V2MV) to (H9KXC4) in the span of 3 matches in-between them? It makes no sense.
Today I had 1 game that was real close. I lost. It felt better than the 8 other games I’ve had today with someone DCing
IMO, people blame the wrong thing.
Hot take - matchmaking is mostly ok. It’s just that OW in general and OW2 especially is veeeeeeery sensitive to slight differences in team cohesion and individual picks at the start of teamfight.
So, even a slight difference - someone hadn’t have enough sleep today, someone is distracted, just some bad luck or team cohesion is slightly off - quickly snowballs into a lost fight. Then lowered morale does the rest.
This is why on one hand you see one sided stomps sometimes. On other hand you see incredible comebacks from a team that was stomped on in other times - because they just managed to get together right at the last moment.
100% it tells me i have something more to work on. It tells me SOMETHING at least. I can except an L and work toward making that a W next time but wtf am I supposed to do with an unbalance L?
I dont believe they can fix the problem, qp que time taking longer, it means that players starting drop the game due to unfair balancing.
Ignore players feedback? Go ahead.
I suppose something like the butterfly effect.
I agree 100%.
I don’t mind losing if it was a close, well played match where the stats at the end for both teams are almost identical. I mean, it still sucks to lose, but it’s not frustrating or demoralising.
Problem is, matches like that are very few and far between.
Usually you look at the stats at the end and one team’s stats are at least double (if not more) the other team’s stats.

Stats are misleading often. People forget this game is about objective, i have matches all the time where stats are double into the enemy side, but we won and pretty quickly too. You can lose 2 teamfights, then win one and move objective. If that repeats a few times - win, but your team made twice less kills. Not to mention if a fight drags on - multiple kills can be made by one side without much effect on objective.
But I agree on a general statement - it’s not fun when game snowballs in one direction without comebacks.
