Do You Ever Actually Call it "Overwatch 2"?

Does anyone ever actually call it “Overwatch 2” and not just “Overwatch”?

For most games, it makes sense to reference the number. Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 are pretty different games. But, there is no Overwatch 1 anymore. It’s not like there’s any confusion if I say “I play too much Overwatch” because there’s only one game I could possibly be playing.

I know this horse has been beaten a lot, but get rid of the “2” already.

I do, because that’s what it is. I also call counter strike, counter strike 2, even though it’s pretty much the same game. Same thing I did with CS:GO and cs 1.6, etc.

It would be weird if people didn’t call major iterations of games by their names. Unless you think OW1 and OW2 are not very different? They seem pretty different to me.

Not since making fun of them calling it a sequel back in the day

I don’t think they’re very different. Stadium could be called Overwatch 2. That’s dramatically different.

But, like I said, you can’t even play Overwatch 1. So why specify unless the conversation is specifically about the prior version?

That’s just how words work. If you are referring to OW, people might think you mean OW1. That’s why you specify. It’s called, words. Nobody says just OW either. It’s OW1 or OW2. There is a pretty significant difference between the two, whether you think so or not. Like, one is f2p, 5v5, shop, etc? Need I go on?

No, I just call it ‘‘Overwatch’’. ‘‘OW’’

Everyone i know just says ow, because that is the game we are playing.

Reminicing about old matches or abilities that don’t exist anymore or when patches happened we specify 1 or 2. But it’s more of a timeline term.

When someone says “i’m playing overwatch” no one is going to ask " 1 or 2?" Because it doesn’t matter. Only one game they could be playing after all.

Yea when my buddy wants to play OW, he just says “OW?” not “OW2?”

I usually prefer to call it Overwatch unless I want to be specific when comparing or something , the I call it Overwatch 2.

But to be fair, they’re the same for me. I don’t mind calling it either.

Stadium deserves the 2.

Nah, I just call it “Overwatch”/“OW” and so does anyone I run into. Both people who play the game and those who don’t.

For example:
“Hey Uncle Potatoad, what do you wanna play?”
“Let’s play Overwatch!”
“No. Let’s play Fortnite instead.”
“Why do you even ask me what I want to play when you always ask to play Fortnite?”
"In the new season of Fortnite there’s a cow blaster that… " [goes on about whatever the heck’s happening in that game right now in a long stream of consiousness, while ignoring my question and booting up the game]

When i see “OW2” the reading voice in my head says literally “Oh Wuhh Too”

there might be something wrong with me

I think it largely depends on context.

Like if I ask my friends “Hey do you guys want to play some Unrailed?” they’re not going to get confused because I didn’t say the full name, “Unrailed 2: Back on Track.” They’re very much aware of what game we’re playing. Likewise, if I asked “Does anyone want to play Overwatch?” nobody is going to be baffled at how I’m somehow magically playing a game that no longer exists. It’s pretty well implied that I would mean OW2. To be honest, I think in most cases it would actually be kinda weird to say the full name.

However, if the context calls for a distinction, then yes. Like if we’re talking about balance and such, I’ll tell them “Yeah I liked OW1 better than OW2” because that’s an important detail.

Only to distinguish between them when time reference is needed. It does happen often, however. But in general, it’s just Overwatch.

Well, yes. But, I was moreso referring to when talking on the forums, I always say OW2, not OW, which I thought was what the OP was referring to. I may have misunderstood.

I guess my interpretation of OP’s question was like if you were talking with a random person (perhaps on another forum or in person), would you explicitly say “Yeah I play a lot of Overwatch 2,” or would you just say “Yeah I play a lot of Overwatch”?

Well, I would always say OW2, but maybe that’s just me. It makes more sense to me. Like I would say CS2, or Smite 2, or, whatever the actual name of the game is? I guess I’m just weird like that.

Only to insult it/talk about the worst aspects.

Or specify to compare it to when the game was really fun.

To this point though, if I’m just playing with my friends, I say lets play overwatch, lol. Not overwatch 2, haha

When I tell people I’m gonna go play Overwatch there is no confusion.

When I say that i did something in Overwatch there is no confusion.

Nobody has EVER responded “OW1 or OW2?”

OW2 was supposed to have a bunch of features and differences that would have warranted the 2… it never got them and they coopted OW1 so it’s not like I could be referring to OW1 if I said I did something within the past couple years.

I don’t see any point in adding the 2.
