Do sym and mei counter dive?

We havent really seen dive be exceptionally viable since early overwatch for a number of reasons, and in that time theres been a lot of changes.
Notably, current sym vs early sym and mei being able to freeze multiple people at once. With syms turrets being much easier to set up and being able to put an escape tele for her team anywhere combined with mei walls and slow pierce, does dive have a real chance in comp?

Symm is easy to kill for dive, winston deletes the turrets immediately and kills her before she can get enough charge from his barrier, along with help from his dive buddies. As I said in another thread, mei is easy to avoid for dive and her wall is meaningless to them. Abundant cc and much more damage kills dive

Mei does a good job of countering dive with minimum effort using her multifreeze and insta slow they gave her during quad tank. That’s kinda sad. Symmetra on her own doesn’t do much against dive.

Mei yes!

her primary can freeze anyone in 2 - 3 seconds if im correct

Sym no!

Winston can easily counter her and her turrets

Mei yes, Sym is countered by it.

Both Sym and Mei are far more annoying to deal with when playing deathball comps than when playing in a dive orientated one IMO, at least from my experience with tanking.

Symmetra not, Mei counters everything. But yeah also dive

Yes, Mei is a solid dive counter. I’d say other tanky/250 HP DPS (Reaper and DF) are a fairly strong counter to dive as well, because dive tanks can’t engage them for a significant amount of time and survive.

Sym NO, she is countered by dive if anything.

The wall isn’t meaningless tho.

Exactly what she have on her primary now.

Anyone who believes Sym is any sort of Dive counter fundamentally misunderstands how her kit works.

Symm does counter hamster. Winston counters symm tho

Mei is just broken, she counters all tanks. Harder than tracer ever countered supports

Sym may be the most dive-able hero in Overwatch.

Overall I’d say Mei yes, Symmetra no.

Mei

  • Prevents Wrecking Ball from getting max speed with just a little spray
  • Ignores Defense Matrix and Deflect
  • One shots Tracer with right click
  • Difficult to focus/pick due to Ice Block

Symmetra

  • Turrets can be difficult to deal with if you don’t run Winston

Nope they don’t, which is why they were not used to counter dive last time.

Has anyone here saying she counters dive actually played dive?

Because Winston shield means she can’t freeze people on the other end, so Zen still dies, and everyone still escapes.

Which is why no one used her an a way to stop dive last time.

Nothing has changed there. Multifreeze doesn’t change what Winston’s shield does to the freezey gun.

I think its funny everyone assumes Sym must have her turrets already deployed

For pro level “dive” neither Mei nor Sym pose much of a challenge, for the false imitations of “dive” through 85% of the ladder, they actually do reasonably well, but Mei more than Sym. Winston’s shield is an awesome feeder for Syms primary… all I’m saying.

Best Dive counters are characters that can excel at preventing them from disengaging. Junkrat has his massive damage and traps, Pharah (Pharmacy) can outmaneuver the team’s coordination, Roadhog can chain hook, McCree can stun/fan, and Reaper can eat D.Va, Winston and Wreckingball.

There’s other options, but these are the ones I see work the best.

The best dive counter was Lucio to speedboost the dived people out of there.

The thing is, Sym’s turrets are most easily countered by dive / mobile heroes, which is kind of counterintuitive to beginners.

She’s also a squishy with no panic button… Basically the perfect target to dive and kill for free.

Boosted Mei player. .
