Do reports affect endorsement levels?

tldr: someone was spamming the match chat being rude and saying slurs but had endorsement level 5, both me and my friend reported them and I was wondering if this would do anything to their endorsement level or not

I was playing a game earlier today with my friend and we were winning, nobody on my team had swapped their characters all game. The enemy tank swapped to winston to counter our doom and then their kiriko asked why they were countering in qp - this was the start of a very toxic second half of a game.

When I asked what they were talking about (because I didn’t realise their tank countered and thought they were on about us) the kiriko called me a slur  they continued to be rude, spam the match chat, say we lost to a console player before the game even ended, and repeat the same slurs but towards my whole team, for the rest of the game.

In the very last stretch of the game the whole enemy team (except kiri and winston) swapped to counter us and barely managed to win during overtime. As some of us were saying gg the kiriko spammed the chat being rude to our team, and even a few others from their team joined in. Both the kiri and one of their dps were acting like losing to a console player was a huge deal and super embarrassing, when it honestly really isn’t (plus I play on switch so don’t really care lol), they also just kept being rude in the chat until all the highlights and things ended. Only one person from their team wasn’t being toxic and it was the winston lol

Anyway, of course me and my friend reported them since not only were they toxic in general but they were straight up saying slurs and telling us to ā€œdietsā€ to, im assuming, get past the chat filters.
When I went to report them I saw they were endorsement level 5 and wondered if reporting them will do anything to their endorsement level, or if nothing will happen and they’ll get to keep their level 5 endorsement while saying slurs and getting heated and toxic in qp. tbh I’m unsure of how they even managed to get that high of an endorsement with the way they acted all game

Also the funniest part is they didn’t even do very well, had the worst stats on their team, and didn’t do any better than any of my team either :sob: (less kills, more deaths, less damage, and less healing)

Not likely. They’re more likely to get an action than get their endorsement lowered after the decay nerf.

that’s so irritating tbh  idek how they managed to get that high of endorsement acting that way without buying the account or something its so weird

Yeah I’m more inclined to believe that they bought that account and it’s probably a boosting/deranking account…either that or they stole it/it belongs to a family member or friend and they’re hijacking it.

But about deranking their recommendation level 5? I think that only declines if you avoid them.

I think so whenever I see a whole team rage and threaten to report me I usually also see my endorsement drop a level. I usually take that as my queue to report them all back.

Sounds like a stolen/bought account.

Endorsment levels mean nothing if they get themselves permabanned, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

that’s exactly what I was thinking icl, I feel bad if it is someone else’s account they’re using, like a family member or friend.

If they get suspended their endorsement level goes down to zero when they are able to play again.

I’ve literally had an incident where I got a level up on my endorsement level (3 to 4) after a match with an abusive stacked team and thinking ā€˜see, I did my part’ and then being suspended seconds later because apparently ā€˜we appreciated you!’ translates to ā€˜you’ve been suspended for gameplay sabotage’.

In the past I’ve even wondered if there’s some reverse psychology going on where the endorsements are used as reverse indicators. You get an endorsement for ā€˜good teamwork!’ and what it actually means is that your team thinks you sucked and played solo too much.

It’s also way easier to get endorsement levels by playing in events, arcade or casual where 3/4 people a match give out endorsements (in my experience). If I play ranked I can be a God for 100 matches straight, but if only 1 or 2 people take the time to give an endorsement then your ā€˜average’ keeps you down. A handful of endorsement can cause it to ping pong you between lvl 3 and 4.

That said I mostly ignore the whole system (there’s a lousy xp reward every week?) and I don’t think I’ve ever even endorsed someone else either. Don’t put too much weight on it.

I’m not trying to put lots of weight on it, I know it’s a flawed system and ever since finding out you used to be able to endorse people for specific things, I think they should bring that back.

I was wondering because usually a high endorsement level means you’re a good player or at least a decent person and this person was honestly neither

The extra endorsement xp is lousy but still it can be the last little bit needed to go up a battle pass tier sometimes

^^ same goes for the 50 xp per endorsement given lol

There was honestly no need for you to even respond to my post because you didn’t answer my question and you essentially just said ā€œidc about endorsementsā€

Edit:
Also if I’m being honest rn, it sounds like you’re probably either not a good player, not a good person (i.e when communicating), or for whatever other reason aren’t worth endorsing in people’s opinions. This may not be the case of course but the way you’re talking about endorsements supposedly ā€œkeeping you downā€ when they have nothing to do with rank, as well as getting endorsements is supposedly the reason you got suspended, seems very odd and sounds like cope icl

I’m inclined to believe that toxic person you played with was on someone else’s account. Whats the elo for this match? Bought account doesnt seem very likely imo, just using someone else’s is perfectly plausible.

I guess everyone has a bad day, i say that to play devil’s advocate. Still seem like a royal bunghole though.

Endorsement level mean less than ever before though. Take it from someone who has been level 5 for 8 months. It doesnt matter at all imo.

sorry idk what this means :sob:
I tried googling it but it mentioned rank and this was during a quick play match, their career profile was also private so I couldn’t see anything other than the name, endorsement level, icon, title and player card.

yeah i know, especially since the decay nerf and removing specific endorsements, but I just wondered if it would go down because it’s annoying when I go to report expecting an endorsement of 3 or lower but there’s a big 5 staring back at me lol

They lose endorsements if they get reported. And if they even get suspended it is down to 0.

You asked if reports affect endorsement levels. I responded with something that happened to me where I leveled up my endorsement level (Good player!) and then got suspended seconds after (Bad player!) which leads me to think that reports don’t equal -1 endorsement point.

I never said endorsements have anything to do with rank in the context of ā€˜keeping you down’. That related to the average amount of endorsements you get per match and certain modes tend to earn you more or less (so if you care and want to up your score play mode x to get that average up).

With ā€œDon’t put too much weight on it.ā€ I was trying to say that you shouldn’t get emotionally attached to it, don’t be anxious about it when you drop an endorsement level. That’s why I stated why I don’t care about it (trustworthiness of the system, rewards).

In short my answer to your question: No, I don’t think the endorsement system and the reporting system are intertwined. Your (two?) reports won’t make someone go from lvl 5 to 4. At best you not endorsing that player indirectly affected their score. (if they get reported enough and get a suspension the endorsement level does reset).

I asked a question and you told me something that had absolutely nothing to do with my question and told me to ā€œnot put any weight on itā€, without ever answering my question.

this had nothing to do with my post though ???

I haven’t - you clearly didn’t even read the first sentence of my post.

that’s why I asked why bother replying in the first place saying all that then just ending it with essentially ā€œidc tho so neither should youā€

you don’t think, so you don’t actually know and still haven’t answered my question (but you don’t need to because luckily other people already did)

the person was saying slurs in the match chat, i doubt my duo and I were the only two out of all 9 of us who reported them (especially since it was aimed at everyone sometimes not just specific people). Also if they’re acting that way in one qp game after their tank counters our tank, I dread to think how they act in comp games - if it’s anything like that then they’ll definitely have received/will receive many more reports than just 2

These are some lvl 1 endorsement types of replies.

When that happens I have to assume they are having a bad day, and aren’t usually toxic.

I have found that there is no correlation between endorsement and toxicity levels in most cases.

it used to be like that. i was suspended a month back and my endorsement remained at 4 even after the suspension.

Endorsements don’t mean anything other than the account being old. I never say anything and I’m 5.
