Do Punishments from Reports Reset? (Overwatch 2)

So within the last 3 months I’ve been silenced for 2 weeks, suspended for 2 weeks, and suspended for a month. Before this, in over a year and 800+ hours of me playing, I’ve never even received a warning message and while I do believe the first silence was fair (I don’t think I’m that toxic, but when someone is toxic towards me I have been known to retaliate), the suspensions felt very report-based since I was never really told what I did, and despite appealing and asking after every punishment, I haven’t been able to get an answer that doesn’t feel like an automated, unempathetic response. It feels as if I’ve reached a certain threshold, and now pretty much anything I say will get me punished. I just got my account back after the month long suspension, but I’m terrified to play, let alone use text/voice chat since, since I’m pretty sure the next punishment is a permanent account closure since I’ve already had 3 punishments. I’ve spent some money on this account and I’ve put a lot of time into it so losing it would be really unfortunate for me. Does anyone know if these punishments will stack in the future and if, no matter what I say and the severity of the action, the next punishment will definitely be a permanent ban? What if I literally say “good round” and someone gets upset because they’re losing and reports me? What if it’s been a year since my last punishment - will it still be a permanent ban, or will it reset back to a silence? Obviously I will not be using comms pretty much at all after this and I want to avoid any future punishments at all, but I feel like communicating with and talking to other players is a part of the game and not being able to do so takes a little bit of the fun out of it. So, does anyone have any advice? Thanks

Yes, but i cant say the exact circumstances.

I got a 1 month suspension… quit for like 6 months came back and got muted a few weeks later.

Havent had any issues over the last month, though the most do is call out grossly uneven matches…

Okay thats actually pretty relieving thank you. Did you get other punishments before the suspension though or just a 1 month suspension out of nowhere?

Mute > 2 weeks > 1 month > ban.
Seems to be the experience most have had, if were talking strictly “abusive chat”

Good to know I’m not alone. Still think its stupid that they issue literal account closures over what they consider to be “toxic behavior” (I get it for like slurs and stuff but I just call people bad at the game sometimes) rather than just a mute but it is what it is.

Oh i agree, a line needs to exist, but basically doesn’t at least in overwatch

If you’re particularly worried about losing your account you can always go with the resetting of reports instead of account actions. It’s something one tricks used to do way back in the mass ban days.

Basically the report system is just x reports within y timeframe = action. By switching accounts every 2-3 weeks you can avoid almost all volume based reporting as your reports will decay while you play on another account. Then repeat. Add a 3rd account in for extra caution if you like. This doesn’t work for manual bans such as those issued for cheating, extreme abusive chat etc. To my knowledge this still works.

Good to know - do you think my account had report decay during the month long ban or do you think it’s still on the verge of another punishment?

I couldn’t say for sure. Back in the day it seemed to reset but things have changed recently so I don’t know.

Cheating arent manual… ive heard many accounts of consoles getting false cheating bans…

Likely due to false “ximming” reports…

They often are which is why the come in waves except for the blatant aimbots that get banned mid match.

Nah they come in waves, because the anti-cheat got updated and now detects them…

Blizzards common practice has been to allow people to continue playing for a time to catch as many as possible instead of banning on immediate detection which then warns the users/developers to change the cheats. Outside of the most blatant offenders anyway. This has been the case for decades and before Overwatch even existed.

Not that it matters or has anything to do with the OPs problem.

Lol thats just jargon trying to embellish the impacts of updating anti cheat…

If you say so.

At least now you know why I’m so confident in winning our 6 month bet

Ah so you are that same individual…

Wasnt sure…but since you confirmed allow me to call you out

Your literally promoting circumvention of the system… which is fine, im guilty too…

But you also promote people getting punished, deserving or not…

I dont want say hypocrisy… but the only other rational explanation is your trolling :frowning:

At times. Particularly in the cases when somebody isn’t breaking any rules.

My stance is that those who are abusing, harassing or scapegoating their team should be actioned. Cheaters and people who blatantly throw such as jumping off the map too. Beyond that I’m happy to help people avoid suspensions, don’t think they deserve to be banned and won’t report them.

I’m pretty serious in what I post outside of one person. You aren’t them though.

I’ve been banned for month few days ago, i want to switch to another account cause i am afraid to lose my main acc (have every premium battle pass and cowboy collab)
As some guys in this post said that it does reset, can you tell me any updates ?

why did you necro a 7 month old thread?? You’re just going to get yourself into even more trouble…

to be honest i don’t understand what do you meant by trouble, i’ve searched to see if anyone had the same question as me ?
