Usually my unranked rank sits around high plat/diamond, occasional against Masters. It’s very consistent that I have at least a couple of diamonds in my match
After I did my placements a couple of days ago, I suddenly play against mid gold consistently.
Mind you: This is an old and settled account and my placements ended with gold II
Important information: There is no separate MMR for each role in unranked
So now I smurf in unranked and ranked?
Is this a bug? Is this intentional? WTF
Finishing placements gives you a rank based on your unranked performance (the game has already estimated a rank before even starting the placements)
After that you get a separate MMR for ranked mode that has the same starting point as unranked.
If you didn’t play play ranked in the past.
The issue is that my unranked mmr overtook the mmr of ranked after I did my placements, which should not be happening
You mean you ranked once, then became unranked and you placed again?
in that case you just continue from where your last rank has left off.
If anyone could change their rank just by playing QP, everyone would be doing it.
I ranked in OW1 back then, play only quickplay/unranked in OW 2, made my placements a couple of days and after I finished them, my quick/unranked mmr took over the ranked MMR
Meaning with finishing my placements in ranked I dropped around 2 ranks in unrankend/quick

There was a rank “reset” (even though it is still based on current MMR) when they switched to the current ranked system (after they ditched the “5 matches to rank update” one).
When you finish your first ranked match the game already tells you in what rank it thinks you belong and it you don’t prove it differently until the last of the placements, it is going to start you there.

These should be two seperate once. You quickplay MMR should not adjust to your ranked experience, especially if you play unranked for a long time and just started playing ranked
The game know that your current rank is gold so it tries to find gold players (it just updates the rank factors when doing the matchmaking). However, that doesn’t necessarily mean their MMR is any lower than what you have been getting before.
The people I got in quick after I did my placements in ranked, are gold players, they play like gold players, I can harass them like gold players, the coordination is gold.
I got actually demoted in quick for doing my ranked games
I can’t say how much weight rank has over MMR but if it MMR didn’t matter as much it would be redundant if the matchmaking can be done purely on rank, won’t it?
if I have to guess, the game just gives you freebies to pad up your winrate which has probably gone down so it gives you the first gold players that it can find.
