Haha the merry-go-round is my favourite! I’ve been on it for months now.
I have a somewhat extreme opinion about this kind of thing;
When you choose to play ranked, you are making an agreement to try, and to learn and improve (which is the point of playing competitively).
Only playing DPS an intentionally not learning how to play the other roles means you forfeit your right to complain. Choosing competitive means that you’re signing up to a duty, and going against that and making the experience worse for others loses you your right to complain. Your right to a choice stops when your negatively affecting others. You have the right to pick who you want, but you don’t have the right to ruin the game for others.
I love people that queue as support, and then try to live vicariously through the DPS by asking them over and over again to play a character of the support player’s choosing. Sorry, but it is Torb and Pharah all day long. Double hitscan? No shield? idk. If you want a certain DPS character on your team, sit through the queue and pick it yourself.
I disagree. I am a flex player and I don’t think it means I should have shorter DPS queues. I have lightning fast queues when I play tank (like every other tank) and I have long queues when I play dps (like every other dps). I don’t think I deserve special treatment…
Though I guess I am technically getting less wait time in the long run, because low tank numbers drive down wait time dramatically.
Now repeat after me: Me saying ‘Truth’ does not make my personal opinions any more valid than anyone else’s!
I love people who queue as DPS, only to go with a suboptimal pick (the bit I’m never bothered about, tbh) and then feed and then blame supports/tanks despite the issue being their positioning.
If you want your supports and tanks to pick certain heroes and play a specific way, you need to queue for them yourself.
Seriously, though. What a nonsensical and childish mentality.
I mean, it’s not wrong to ask people to play in a specific way or swap their heroes. That applies for everyone in every role.
OFC I understand the junk otp who refuses to switch agains’t pharmercy dive comp and then blames the ana because she couldn’t heal him inside the enemy winston’s bubble and dva’s defense matrix and tells her to go mercy or brig instead while calling their support aimless and broken arm is not really the person you want yelling at you how to play the game properly, but I’m talking about a normal person or even a off-meta one trick (torb/sombra), because even if you don’t like the person’s pick, you might actually be the problem and not know it or they may have a nice workaround the enemie’s comp and need you to play their way.
I dont think that’s trying to live vicariously…its usually asking your teammates to counter an enemy, or because a specific utility would give your team a great advantage (such as sym portal to point).
It’s not like this only happens to dps players. People often ask tanks to switch, and sometimes supports are asked to change too. Like, I have no real interest in playing DPS. I’m not trying to live vicariously by asking you to switch for the sake of the team.
Honestly, outside the issues with matchmaking and leavers and so forth and so forth, role queue has been the best thing they ever introduced. I love playing Tank and Healer and occasionally DPS. It was frustrating when I wanted to either tank or heal but we had one already. Joining games with four tank mains or four healer mains made for weird matches.
Now I can queue for the things I want. If I want to tank, I can queue tank. If I want to heal, I can heal. If I wanna go through the unbearable long line for DPS queue, then so be it. Often I just queue all three and don’t mind whatever happens.
I do like the idea of flex players being given some kind of priority if they are playing all three, but the system is new so maybe they’ll consider that just to make the DPS queue less lengthy for flex players. As for exclusive DPS players? Well…
I understand and am fine with the queue times. What I am not fine with are the stupid people who are queuing as healers and not healing because they are playing them as a dps. I had 9 games this week where I finished with gold or silver healing as reaper/sombra. And then games I didnt have gold healing, it was because we had a Hog on the team…
Even though I’m a Mercy main, I got to say this is off. When people want to play the game they don’t want to sit through a bunch of nonsense they want to PLAY THE GAME. Regardless of the reason 10 min queues are UNACCEPTABLE in any multiplayer game that wants to encourage multiple matches. I’m sure most of them understand why the queues are long but it doesn’t change that it sucks.
the epitome of entitled whiny brat dps players.
I’m not whiny. I never ask anyone for any switch.
You can disagree all you want, but if this game has 3 roles that are meant to be played equally, at the same level, my statement is 100% true.
Good meme, shame that my “opinion” is based on a logic that is derived of a design principle done by the developers of this game so sorry, pal, you are wrong here. Like I said, statement is unrefuted, proven true:
If someone plays the 3 roles everytime, on rotation, the game SHOULD give them priority.
It is what it is
Indeed, roles should be rebalanced and three DPS should be allowed per composition. Instead we get stupid posts and comments like these. The hilarity is associated with people who have no perspective yet post this confidently.
Is this person a failed elementary school teacher or something? Yes, everyone gets it.
That would raise a whole bunch other issues, mostly for the tank players.
Mei’s Yeti Hunt did have a system in place where playing games as hunters gave you priority when you queued for Yeti, by the way, the issue with adding that kind of system to the DPS queue is that it increases the queue time for non-priority players even further (and they are quite long already, especially at high ranks).
You may say “well boo hoo, maybe spend that time playing a game of tank” or “well, you aren’t flexing, you deserve a longer queue” - but people are going whine and moan and “quit overwatch” anyway.
I’ve just posted a thread with my ideas for how to do this specifically. Both tank and support players are affected, 1-3-2 isn’t forced, and the adverse consequences I could foresee I’ve targeted with changes to other heroes.
One thing is clear - this role queue thing is raising issues and there is no solution that doesn’t raise issues.
I’m not suggesting any of this nonsense.
I know, I saw other people arguing about it further up the thread. Should have quoted one of them, I guess.
No need for personal insults. This thread is in response to three threads where people seemed really confused about why queue times are so long for dps. So apparently people don’t get it
There are people who bought this game 4 years ago
They are used to 5-10 minutes max
Not 15 minutes on a regular basis
I also bought this game knowing that I have to wait most of the times 2-5 minutes
It’s not about “people not getting it”
If you wait longer than a match lasts, that’s bad.
You can come here with logic “The Q with the most populated playerbase is of course the longest!”, but if you make the game so much less attractive for your biggest playerbase, you lose a lot of players.
It’s not a coincidence that they even consider crazy solutions like 1-3-2 (which I am not fond of).
My solution: Make tanks more fun to play
Don’t ever let a as niche pick intended hero like Mei be meta (or even worse, must pick).
Making other roles less fun could end only one way.
