It has been requested since RQ has existed. Remove tanks from the game.
No, Overwatch will not turn into COD with just DPS and Supports.
Yes, game quality would exceed expectations. It will be 3 DPS constantly switching around as space creators, while being able to peel for their 2 supports, take the point, and secure kills. No longer will the job be for the lone (depressed) individual.
There, fixed Overwatch.
There is nothing to debate about this. There aren’t near enough good tank players for game quality to stay consistent. I’m saying this as someone who loves playing tank, just get rid of it. Resize them and move them into the DPS category. Let it be optional to have them on the team, and if so, a heavily nerfed version of their defensive capabilities but higher buffed offensive.
Tank queue times are sub 5 seconds. DPS/Supps are nearing 3 minutes per game. It’s time to make the move.
Agreed.
Development team made tank stronger to make people do tank, and this made the situation worse.
The impact of tank difference on the entire game has grown even larger, and this gives more reason to blame the tank when losing.
Hey. Go into workshop and try it yourself. I sim’d and played a 5v5, 3 dps/2 supp game and the difference was night and day. The fights were so INTENSE! So much better than the current format. I had so much fun watching the AI play against one another, that I had to jump in on the AIMBOT difficulty and it was just fun. Quick paced, nonstop action.
I dislike the idea because it would ruin Reinhardt. How do you make him a pipsqueak and still have value with heavy nerfs? These developers cannot figure out how to make a shotgun that is not semi-automatic. I do not trust them for this.
Removing the tank role in Overwatch 2 is a contentious topic. Tanks are crucial for game balance, controlling engagements, and protecting teammates, which significantly affects game flow. Professional players and data underscore the strategic importance of tanks, though some players find it frustrating when countered or overwhelmed.
Blizzard has actively balanced tanks, recently increasing their durability and effectiveness. These changes aim to address player feedback and enhance the role’s impact.
While removing tanks might simplify matchmaking, it could disrupt the game’s strategic depth. Instead, balancing all roles and adjusting game mechanics could better address queue times and player satisfaction.
No tanks deathmatch and arcade mode would SLAP! but the problem here is that they also need to make the format 0-3-2, as we already know that in a open queue setting, most people will opt in for 0-4-1 or 0-5-0. We need supports in the game, we do not need tanks.
I really like the unique role tank plays in this game. I don’t really care for flick precision aiming in general, so the dps I do play tend to be more “unique” than that. I don’t think cutting an entire role is fair.
The problem with tanking, from my perspective, isn’t what tanks do. It’s that they have to do too many things at once and get disrupted constantly. I find it really aggravating that I have to be in 5 places at once and just can’t. AND I’m getting slept, naded, rocked, hindered on top of that? Lol. How to fix that and keep it 5v5… idk
Easy. His secondary should just flat out stun the enemy. Give Mei her freeze back as well. DPS with CC = a good time. Tanks existing = player count dropping.
