Do aim trainers work?

I recently started playing on pc (about 2 weeks ago) and OW is my first fps on pc since I played FEAR back when I was like 7 so naturally I suck lol. I’ve noticed my aim getting better but nowhere near where’d I like it to be. I started using an aim trainer and idk If it’s a placebo or I’m just naturally getting better from play OW itself too. I guess basically I wanna know If I’m wasting my time using an aim trainer and should just stick to OW?

They can help, but I think OW has its own wonkiness with movement and hitboxes that OW is probably your best bet. However, there are certainly scaffolding tools to slowly improve your aim for hitscan within OW.

Basic: Winston, Reinhardt, and Brig Primary fire

The only goal here is to consistently practice and keep the opponent on your field of view.

Level 1: Moira’s biotic grasp.

This helps you keep the cursor on the target, but has a little more wiggle room for error.

Level 2: Symm and Zarya Primary Fire

This helps you keeping your tracking directly on the target and staying on the target.

Level 3: Bastion and Soldier Primary Fire

Because there is a bloom effect, it helps you learn more effective ranges to keep the tracking, and/or controlling your file with shorter bursts.

Level 4: McCree (Primary Fire), Ashe (ADS), Ana (ADS)

At this point, each shot needs to count more, and you’re playing with a slower RoF.

Level 5: Widowmaker (ADS)

By now, you’re getting more comfortable with things, and need to learn rewards of making each shot count and going for crit zones. From here, it’s really just working backwards.

There are countless things on custom games you can work and tinker with, but I’ve even found there is a good method for getting a hero comp ready as well.

Death Match :arrow_right: Quick Play Classic :arrow_right: Quick Play :arrow_right: Competitive.

You’re going from, understanding the hero’s mechanics (DM), playing against 6 others with objectives (QPC), practicing in a competitive setting (QP), and testing your skills (Comp).

Sidenote: I have a crippling education theory and practice addiction that I don’t seek help for.

Sorta. What would help you more would be the workshop that throws heroes in the air in Lijiang tower. It is a really good warm up for your tracking.

This reminded me.

Something that is also very useful to play around on. Someone created a Practice Range 2.0 in Workshop (Code: 68FMZ)

Do you have a code for that one? I watched iddqd play that earlier and it looked interesting.

Then again, Sooshikitty’s stream is good fun and she rocks that Osu before her matches. I’ve been considering trying to do that one.

No, you are not wasting your time. An aim trainer, provided that it can be set up to mimick the sensitivity of Overwatch, will definitely help you.
Unlike just playing the game, you will fire alot more shots while using the aim trainer, giving you a much more intensive training.
If you keep training in the aim trainer, say 10-15 mins every day (maybe before entering OW) for a few months, I can assure you you will see results.

Make sure that everything is properly set up first though. Make sure you have a good mouse and that you have found the right way to aim (arm aim vs. wrist aim) as well as having found the right sensitivity.

There are plenty of guides online for setting up your sensitivity (exact sensitivity is individual). This is a very, very important first step on your road to good aim.

I’m like, level 3.5? Depends on how warmed up I am. First game of the week/night? I’m a 2. An hour in? I’m the best damn Cree the worlds seen

I’ll be perfectly honest. I float around the same as you mentioned, and I’m perfectly cool with that too (I don’t aspire to be a hitscan God).

People should absolutely find their comfort zone, and some definitely start on different levels of it.

I had actually thought to leave a note of it, but I had already wrote out a lot.

I also realize I left out Baptiste and Hammond, but they’re both effective and weird to place because they’re like between 2 and 3.

Play CSGO or the new Warzone for hitscan practice.
