DLC Heroes vs. Original Heroes

In all honesty, majority of the DLC heroes (mainly at brig and after) being the hybrid, jack-of-all-trades heroes need to be weaker than the original cast heroes. It’s still weird to me that majority of the DLC heroes have never been “bad” and have always or at least almost always been a good/meta pick ever since their releases. Have you noticed that? And its usually in a very oppressive way where they’re almost a “must pick” at some parts of the game since their releases. Even if the DLC heroes become weaker than the original cast in terms of base numbers, they’ll still be viable due to their “hybrid” nature. They still are able to do multiple jobs at once but on a weaker scale. They tend to have a kit that defeats the purpose of “having weakness and strengths” like the original cast did. Instead, their weaknesses wouldnt be as huge as the original cast, but their strengths would excel the strengths of those of their predecessors. If only these heroes acted like soldier who can do everything, but wasnt overly oppressive, but a rather solid and decent pick. Had a healthy amount of strengths and weaknesses that is just a flat out a balanced hero.

I always see the original cast that have blatantly obvious weakness and strengths where the game felt more fluidic and not as oppressive. Where you can play any hero essentially. Same goes with the few exception of DLC heroes before brig: moira, sombra, doomfist, orisa, ana. They had a little more kit than the original cast but it wasnt as oppressive as the heroes we have at brig and after. They had obvious weakness and strengths that didnt become as oppressive. But now these heroes at brig and after just caused a huge imbalance among every role in their respective roles, and have even caused some balance issues in the original cast, things spiraled out of control.

If only we can somehow get the balance back to September of 2020 era where things were stabilizing and making the right changes to make all if not most (because bastion is probably not gonna be viable, lets be honest) heroes viable again. We were heading the right direction when changes were happening in September 2020. Instead, theres been many instances where usually a DLC hero completely outshines and puts the other heroes (mainly the original heroes) to shame. Right now, we just need to either tone up the struggling heroes right now, or tone down the more powerful heroes down to where majority of the cast is struggling now.

Unless you’re Tracer, then you’re fine.

No they should not. In other words, lets let the original cast dominate the game forever? I agree with Jeff actually; characters need to be retired out over time. THAT would open the door to the game feeling fresh and stop with all the same recurrent meta problems that we have. Let Rein, Mercy, Genji and most of the originals be retired after say four years.

you onetricks need to face some issues, for example the fact that overwatch is meant to be a versatile switch counter game. onetricks and those with a limited heropool are the only issue here.
learn the damn game
git gud

this is not paladins where you are locked on that one hero you picked

That…

No. Just…no. Words cannot describe how terrible of an idea this is.

The worst thing with overly “Jack of all trades” heroes is any attempt to balance them makes them feel “weak” and “meh” at everything even when they’re actually still invaluable. Clear strengths and weaknesses feels a lot better to play, regardless of where the hero actually ranks meta wise.

And this is why, I strongly believe they need to make reworks a priority.

This comment convinced me to be a One-Trick Widow again. Great job.

should i be impressed now? whats the deal? need some attention?

Hey this is actually an idea I learned of from comments by Jeff K. He’s a proponent of it, and the more the game goes, the more I am convinced it needs looking at.

You clearly dont get the point and it just flew right over your head. congratulations. Also, did you just flatly admitted that the original cast should stay dumpstered for years on end? Lmao the bias in this.

Where did this dumb assumption of being a otp come from? Did i say anything about one tricking heroes or anything? No. Idk where you got this whole idea from.

Lately there is the tendency that if someone vehemently disagrees, its “you didn’t get the point”, I did get it, thank you. The original cast is never “dumpstered forever” in the least. But thanks for being close-minded on the question and getting an answer you didn’t expect.

There is a real problem of gentrification in games like this; older players on old characters refuse to give up ground. They insist that if anyone comes in on a new character that character is inherently OP; otherwise how could they challenge them with their hundreds or thousands of hours? This is why Jeff K. likes the idea - he knows its a real problem in the game over time.

then whats your problem in the first place? learn new heroes and play them yourself. not so difficult

Generalists shouldn’t be stronger than niche heroes inside their own niche.

but being good in everything is a generalists niche.

You attacked OTP’s for literally no reason. So tell me? How did OTP’s ruin your life that you’re bringing them into random conversations?

Laughable take right here. We don’t ‘retire’ heroes, all of them should be viable.

But does that mean that a generalist like Soldier should be stronger than Widow in a sniper niche just because technically, he can fight at long-range?

its the otp community that asks for ridiculous nerfs to heroes they dont play. i dont care what your heropool is. its just that you make a show about other heroes with your limited view on things. thats the issue here.

look
you play hero X
hero Y counters hero X
but hero Y is outside of his hardcounters a balanced pick
now you ask for hero Y to be nerfed

Yea but there’s an issue when echo can do everything that genji can but better.
