I’m really tired of this. When Junkertown or Road 66 loading, I think like:
Oh god why?
This is so UNFUN and primitive strategy that requires less team coordination than opposite team to break it. I agree that may be it’s easier to break it on PC, but for example on consoles it’s more harder for Mei to catch up momentum. And Sym balls is help for Mercy to get Valkyrie faster, no? (Or here is no Sym balls soon) As I said this strategy requires less team input like voice chat, because it’s simple. Opposite team (for me it’s like 90%) need to be in voice chat, but there is too many people who don’t know english basics or even no in voice chat. And there is no text chat on consoles, lmao. One thing left is xbox dashboard messages BUT TIME, this take so much time. When our team playing normally first round without that boring strategy, enemy team will defenetly use that in second and smash us down. It’s looking so easy to break it in OWL, but there is high level skill coordination in team with same language.
I think Rialto will be next map with this strategy.

This was my first game of placements. The enemy was on attack with Orisa, Rein, and Baugette. We couldn’t do anything. I guess no one knew how to counter it. We got rolled. I cried a bit inside.
i rarely see this strat tbh but it sucks when it happens its pretty much no fun

I failed 3 matches of placements because of this. I think this is really NOT playing just to stand the whole match on payload. This is boring and unfun. I wish Blizz will turn off standing or placing things on payload.
Thing is, though, if they commit too hard to ‘pirate ship’, if you take out one piece of it, the whole thing falls apart.
It’s not unbeatable; it just takes a certain set of counters to get them off of it. Convince them that they’re not going to be able to execute the strategy and you’ll get ahead.
Besides, it’s only viable on a handful of maps.

Counter it?
Break the shields. EMP. Whatever.

Honestly, “Pirate Ship” is my idea of the purest form of Overwatch. To me, it is a strat that plays how the game was intended. It takes team coordination to pull it off. It takes team coordination to counter it. It keeps actual focus on the payload, instead of everyone just running around like chickens with their heads cut off looking for frags.
It is exactly what overwatch SHOULD be.

Getting a Junkrat, D.Va and whoever else to dive them seemed to work fairly well from experience, but it relies on getting your team together and waiting for the right moment to pounce (you can’t just sit out in the open). Not to mention Junkrat and D.Va have been getting nerfs.

Babysit Bastion? (20 chr)
My favorite tactic is using a Mei to icewall and lift the Bastion out of the range of the shields and everyone just melts him. I think it was a creative use of the hero, takes skill, coordination,…and it is hilarious to watch the Bastion panic, looking around real fast trying to figure out wth just happened to him.

I agree, it’s working fine on PC, but on consoles it’s more difficult to catch up this moment. And if on PC people are not in voice, I can use text chat to trying coordinate with people, but there is no text chat on consoles, only dashboard messages, that requires a lot of time. And we have babysit strategy vs team that needs basics for english speaking or being in voice chat from the beginning. It’s not the problem when I’am plying with my friends, but it’s nearly impossible with random people.
Contrary to popular belief, hardly any comms happen on PC either. A ridiculously large portion of the playerbase has bought into the idea that comms are not needed and are only toxic. Alot of prominent Youtubers pushed this idea and now it has corrupted the community. So most people shut them off. Even the ones that are in voice chat/text chat, most of them don’t even communicate. It’s sad really.
Hanzo and a Junkrat will shred through barriers now.
I honestly don’t understand how anyone loses to pirate ship unless your team is a bunch of idiots. It’s simple. You run mirror comp. A bastion setup on defense will ALWAYS have the advantage over an attacking bastion. Once he is dead once h e will usually switch because your bastion will prevent him from ever getting set back up.
I have less problem to break that strategy on PC, because if people not want to speak, they are (almost always) communicate via text chat and somehow we are break it and force enemy team to switch characters. On Xbox it’s really imposible. I tried: Mei, Dva, Junk, Sym and Sombra.
As I said it’s more harder to catch up momentum with Ice Wall, that mark on ground is so laggy (as Ripper teleporter mark). Bastion smash Dva’s Meka easily and Junk’s face too. If there is double shield, or Bastion/Brigitte will notice you as Sombra - bye bye hack. Sym balls only helps Mercy to get her ult faster, and soon there will be rework of Sym.
I am talking about Xbox, not PC. On PC it’s more easier, I agree.
This is my favorite comp to break. I feel it is one of the easier comps to handle as they don’t move, they are grouped up, and you know exactly where they are. The key to breaking this comp is displacement. As soon as you displace the group once, it is nearly impossible to get back on the payload to set it back up (it definitely is possible for them to get back on but they are at a disadvantage). I play on Console, so I do know it can be tough to break it, but once you do the enemy team will start playing like sh*t just trying to get back on it. Also once you start figuring out the way to break it, after that it gets easier and easier, it may take a few tries trying to break it, but eventually someone on their team is going to make a mistake and once they do it will snow ball from there usually. I don’t think I have ever lost to this comp yet (maybe once or twice but I do not recall ever losing to it).

I don’t play console, so i honestly have no idea. I would agree about the part of text chat at least being an option on pc though. Even if it doesn’t or rarely get used…at least it’s there.
I’m not sure how it works for console, but joining the game already in the team voice chat lobby should be the default(and for pc.) It’s kind of ridiculous that blizz didnt set it up this way.
It should also move groups down into team chat automatically as well.
If people don’t like someone or think they are toxic, they should just mute the individual, but still leave a chances for comms to be open with the 4 other teammates.
Sorry, i went off on a little tangent there, but they are good points that need to be said.
