She has a lot of the same appeal to playing tank but you’re not on the tank role so you don’t have 30 people counterswap you each match
As a Mein, +1 on this, absolutely, try her, she is fun as hell.
Powerful? maybe not. Fun? oh hell yeah she is.
I’m not really sure of many matches where if a Mei is doing well that a Pharah doesn’t come out. Its one of the easiest swaps to make given Mei is projectile and not hitscan meaning one of the strongest roles to counter pharah is wrapped up in not doing that. Most people can’t land alt fire shots.
Practice makes perfect. I love it when they go Pharah against my Mei. It feeds them a false sense of security.
The situation is greatly improved. Larger hitboxes on all weapons. Pharah less total health. Plays lower to the ground for more often. Part of Mei’s general lack of usage is not all entirely because of her kit isn’t fun to use. Its often very feasible to get around it making her ineffective. Which is why I’m all for a little more utility in Mei’s kit like trading ammo for increased movement speed via a slide on the ground or boosting her alt fire projectile speed/size to let her contest longer range heroes.
Second/Third/Fourth+ this.
I picked her up after YEARS of never playing her (I went through an annoying phase of Symmetra/Torbjorn/Junkrat/Mei) because I’m not vibing with Symmetra anymore and there’s a D.Va iin nearly every game.
Her right click is lethal and a pre-nerf Hanzo arrow, essentially. Maps like Lijiang Control Center with a healthy mix of long sight lines and narrow corridors… she’s just so enabled to disrupt any enemy strategy. Fight annoying with annoying and definitely give Mei a try!
She cant lead the team
As a Mei player… sure…
But counterswapping isn’t only a tank problem.
Keep in mind your DPS is garbage compared to a lot of the other DPS people and if someone picks one of those… you aren’t winning any side engagements.
I love Mei simply because she’s an excellent choice against aggressive tanks that don’t know how to stop pressing W. Oh, JQ decided to press W. Wall to remove healing. Slowing effect to slow her down her mobility and you are so bulky you aren’t going down quickly.
That generally course corrects a lot of aggressive tanks rather quickly after they die a couple of times.
I am not even sure how to counter it to perfectly honest. Outside of having your team walk with you, but, like, that’s not up to me?
Pick a tank that moves in more than 2 dimensions. Wall is inconsequential then… or has to be used to block off support rather than isolate the tank themselves.
No. That’s against my religion. I would rather die. My team can figure it out.
