Discussion about the voice line change

Use this to respond to the voice line limitations during games since they decided to lock their own post on the matter, probably because they know how much backlash they’ll get from it.

Squelch chat existed for a reason. If you got annoyed at voice line spam, squelch chat to stop hearing their character.

Yes that would also mute “important” voice lines but don’t pretend like you were going to care about what that person said or did in a positive way if you got tilted at their voice lines.

This takes a fun part of the game out because a loud minority complained about it. This change is bad, revert it, and if voice lines tilt you that much it’s time to take a break and stop playing.

edit: i dont think it’s actually different from before, the cooldown at least. edit 2: nvm the cooldown gets higher every time, saw it go up to 11 seconds. not cool.

It’s not tilting, it’s annoying and distracting. And all they had to do was put an option in the settings where we could permanently mute all non-unlockable voicelines, which the devs can clearly single out. So did they implement something in a stupid way? Yes.

I want an option to disable or limit voice line spam. People can spam all they want, but let me have an option to reduce it.

I love voicelines and am often the one spamming them. I do love how we can spam them without limit in spawn rooms now but the mute thing is just weird… As others have said above, just put in an option to disable all unlockable voicelines. Don’t just nuke it alltogether…

The limit seems to increase the more you abuse it, to a maximum of 30 seconds, then using two voice lines consecutively gives you that 30 seconds again.

I, for one, was a constant voice line user, not an abuser. Pushing the payload with no enemy team to attack? Time to voice line, emotes take too long.

Giving us free use of setup time voice lines is useless. There are too many pre-match preroll interactions between players, in which no voice lines can be used by the entire team.

This also removes the cooldown once implemented, which was in place for this exact reason. The limit is redundant if this was in place, now streamers can spam “I’ve got a few I’ve got a few I’ve got a few I’ve got a few I’ve got a few” without stopping, and their entire stream will hear it. The cooldown was when I would typically stop voice lining and play the game now, even with the text information, that just bumps a significant portion of text comms out of the dialog window.

There was zero reason to do this. There was zero reason to make pre-match interactions over the “team intercoms” as well instead of only audible when close to those characters. Blizzard is taking design mechanics that have been ironed out since the early days of Overwatch 2 for basically no reason.

The official Blizzard topic outlines the change, but does not elaborate on why it was made and/or necessary.

EDIT: Why isn’t there an option for the players who find it distracting to impose this limit on other characters for their local use? Why do I get punished and no one can hear my voice line? If I’m spamming a voice line and their option is enabled, fine, mute my voice lines from their client for 30 seconds. I don’t care. But to spam my chat log with notifications, that’s just a weird flex, Blizzard…

Would it help if I shared a secret and said a lot of these “newer voicelines” are actually spammable.

Take Lucio’s Valentines Day voiceline “Will you be my uh, will you be my uh… why is this so hard?”

The Doomfist 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats is spammable I think too.
