Firstly I want to put it out there that I play Sombra but I don’t main her and I’m mostly cool with these changes.
I’m okay with the 5 second invisibility but what’s not okay was tying it to translocator, it just crested a very clunky play style that’s not super cohesive anymore.
I mainly wanted to discuss the precedent that is now set, this can now happen to any hero if complained enough, all because a loud portion of the player base is okay with objectively bad balance changes simply because they don’t like Sombra. How many reworks will this character receive until those who hate Sombra finally realize they’re a big reason as to why she seems op to them, they don’t switch when needed, they don’t learn that she’s probably going to hack you from behind, they don’t wait for their team, and just like any other hero, sometimes they’re just better. After so many reworks to Sombra I can no longer blame the devs without blaming the players who complain about her no matter what state she’s in
It’s a shame now cause these forums just proved they can butcher heros without properly balancing them and they’re okay with it.
And guess what, the same people who complained about Sombra, are currently now complaining about widow

Sombra was a genuine issue though. People weren’t playing her to play her or even to win. People were playing Sombra specifically to put down characters they didn’t like.
People played Sombra to bully people off their picks. Helping the team and winning the game were circumstantial events which is why her stats were always terrible.
I don’t think it’s so much the same people that were complaining about Sombra that are now complaining about Widow. I think they are different people. But both sides of the “nerf Widow” issues are using the same arguments that we just saw in the “nerf Sombra” threads of yesterweek.
“She’s not that good, just annoying to fight”
“She doesn’t need nerfs, just do X, Y, and Z to counter her”
And a lot of people saw this coming during the Sombra debates. Widow would certainly rise to power. And many that called for Sombra nerfs justifiably said “I don’t care if Widow is strong after this. Nerf Sombra now and tackle Widow issues after.”

Old somber was really annoying imo
And I get that a hero can be a problem but like I said when will it be enough? How many reworks will it take cause at this point, it’s not the devs the fault anymore. I literally cannot in good conscience put the blame on them for Sombra
I’m afraid it will never be enough. Sombra wasn’t even the first hero to be dumpstered due to community backlash. Hog, Mauga, Hanzo, Soujourn, and Junkrat all come to mind before this. Though Sombra’s change was particularly bad comparatively.
This game can’t ever be completely balanced and the vocal minority will always complain about what’s effective or easy.

I think now that Sombra is Nerfed we have an excuse to get them to Nerf Widowmaker.
