As someone who suffers from an anxiety disorder and depression, chat needs to be an option you can toggle on and off. I have disabled cross-platform chat, but it does nothing to stop other console players. I am constantly getting abusive messages, explicit messages, anti-LGBTQ messages, and I can’t take it anymore. Reporting does nothing if you’ve already been subjected to it and when there is a literal sea of people behaving this way, a report is only a drop in the bucket anyways.
And before anyone says, get thicker skin, get over it, or any other dismissive or snarky message, just no. Asking people to respect others is not only a fair request, it shouldn’t even have to be a request period. The normalization of abusive, demeaning, violent, and discrimanating behavior is completely wrong and disgusting.
They just released a patch yesterday that gives you the option to disable text chats in the settings.

Thank you, I didn’t realize that was included in this patch. Thought it was just the normal end of event patch and forgot to check the notes.
But boy do I wish I had seen your reply before my last match. Teammate threw just about every nasty thing they could at our team and then when I called him out on it, somebody else mistook me for attacking them. Good god chat is the worst…

Sorry to hear you made such bad experiences with chat. As a quickplay and arcade warrior myself, i have no impression of competitive chat but i bet it’s worse in that mode and probably where you encountered those toxic people. Either way, you can disable chat easily now, no need to worry about that anymore
