Director’s Take: Addressing Unapproved Peripherals on Consoles

you mean taking a pcmr esports goty into a mobile google play party game is fantastic for the game?

thank god ur not a gamer.

that’s literal XIM.

i would also love fairplay lobbies. thankfully fairplay > ur thumbs

let us opt-out of anti-XIM so we can get back to gaming by/for actual gamers who put in the work aiming and susing out sub-10ms response time gaps.

There’s no such thing my friend!

On PC there’s a wide range of hardware peripherals with some players on 500 hz and some players on 60 hz!

Some players on a generic laptop keyboard while others use the latest Razer snap-tap 1ms mechanical!

PC is an inherently “unfair” platform in that sense since not everybody is on equal footing!

sure but the network/platform/periphs are identical.

XIM KBM created uproar for years in console lobbies. and that is using same platform/network. it is ongoing anti-gamer and studios are letting them opt-out.

we can’t have double standards. the pcmr crowd (which is the most gaming of the crowd btw) really need an opt-out of reverse-XIM lobbies for there to be any -even a delusion- of fairness.

just let people choose! democratize the gaming!

They are?
Since when do we get to opt out of XIM
lobbies?
I’ll give you a hint;
NEVER

good. so you’re all for adding in an opt-out for both sides.

crossplay has no place in FPS gaming where any sort of movement tech, aim, or platform/network latency is a context.

It isn’t an “opt-in” thing, we don’t choose to not have XIMs lmao

right.

so just let everyone opt-out.
it’s like 2 hours dev time to code in that toggle.
no1 needs to watch some bald guy bring the entire lobby down (or up) with their thumbs + all kinds of software bloat to pad in the gaps.
every1 wins always everywhere 4 every1.

no more DEI garbage bloating ur software stack.

Except again
There is no opting-out against XIMs lmao

Your argument completely misses the mark on modern gaming inclusivity. Claiming that crossplay or input flexibility is a “desperation act” ignores the undeniable success of games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Paladins. These games have effectively implemented input-specific matchmaking, demonstrating that it’s entirely possible to support both keyboard and mouse (K&M) and controller players without compromising fairness. Far from disrespecting skill matchups, they actually enhance fairness by allowing players to compete on equal footing while fostering a more inclusive gaming environment. The overwhelming success of these games proves that appealing to a broader audience isn’t “pathetic” it’s a smart, forward thinking approach.

Referring to crossplay players as “11-year-olds” or “bald dudes on a couch” is a prime example of gatekeeping and elitism. Gaming should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their platform or input method. Whether someone uses a keyboard and mouse, a controller, or a handheld device, their participation and enjoyment don’t diminish the value of the game. Writing them off because they don’t fit some arbitrary standard of “dedication” only serves to exclude others unnecessarily.

Lastly, your stance assumes developers can only cater to one audience, but that’s simply not true. Time and again, developers have shown that it’s possible to balance competitive integrity with inclusivity. Suggesting that fairness can only be preserved by excluding entire communities of players is a refusal to adapt to the evolving gaming landscape. Inclusivity and fairness are not mutually exclusive they go hand in hand.

lmao, literally ignoring the problem at hand (What are they going to do about Marvel Rivals and how boring OW has become) to talk about k/b and mouse on console. Wow.

That developer video is 9 months old at this point…

well then, that explains it. freakin necros

Let’s be real if the game has bigger issues, like keeping it engaging (looking at OW), that’s even more reason for the devs to broaden their audience and options, like adding K&M support. Ignoring valid requests like this isn’t helping the game stay alive; it’s just alienating part of the community that wants to play. So maybe the real “problem at hand” is figuring out how to make the game better for everyone, not just those who already fit into a narrow definition of “acceptable” players.
