Direct Earthshatter hit counts as a crit now?

I’m unsure if this is intentional, but since the last patch, I’ve noticed that when Rein hits a direct hit with Earthshatter (by which I mean the extra-damage zone right in front of Rein), he gets a red hit indicator and the crit sound, and if it’s a kill it shows up as a crit in the killfeed. The damage still appears to be 250 as expected, so maybe it was intentionally recategorized as a critical hit? Looks pretty strange to see a crit with a melee weapon though.

It did for almost a year now (or less) - it deals 50 damage to everyone shattered, and additional 200 for anyone who was within 1.75m of the shatter.

I’m not talking about the extra close-range damage. I know that it does 250 up close, that’s why I said that the 250 damage was “as expected.”

I’m talking about the fact that it’s counting as a critical hit. Rein has never been able to crit before, but now when someone is Earthshattered in the 1.75m zone that does 250 damage, Rein gets a red hit pip and a crit dink and it shows as a critical hit in the killfeed if it’s a final blow.

Yeah, this has been the case since the beta release (I think beta 2?), it’s normal. It’s a feature, not a bug. It also lets players know that earthshatter is much deadlier upclose.
