there is a huge difference between main support. and main healer
Main supports and off/flex supports go
Main being
Bap, Brig, Lucio and Mercy
And flex/off being
Ana Zen and Moira
Healer wise.
Main healers would be
Bap, Moira, Mercy and Ana
And off healers would be
Zen, Brig and Lucio.
The difference.
Main supports are supports thats abilities are majorly meant for supporting the team, not necessarily being directly healing the teammates but providing some form of support as their main source of abilities and primary/secondary fire
such as IF, Res, Speed boost, armor pack, boops. Etc, things that directly help the team instead of just the hero,
Off/Flex supports are heroes who have abilities majorly for themselves, or who in directly help the team. Such as Sleep, nade, damage orb, and discord.
For Healers. its based on wether their main focus on their gun majorly is healing or damage/something else
Ana has the darts, Mercy has a beam, Moira has the pee, Bap has the bombs
While off supports have their primary and majorly secondary fire as damage
doing, or something else that doesnt directly mean healing. Lucio has his sound gun, brig has her mace, zen has his balls .
So for Supports. Its wether the hero’s main purpose is to support the team
and for Healers, its wether the hero’s main form of doing things, the gun, is healing or not.
You can either win fights fast through debuffs or sustain fights through high heals… Either is fine… both win games…
But neither is right or wrong.
I thing the first category is right and the majority of this post is right…
I don’t believe off healer is a thing tho. Zenyatta is the best flanker pocket in the entire game… A flanker with an orb on them is very hard to kill.
Lucios often do as much being if not more sometimes than ana… And that’s okay.
I think this is close to true but you still want to believe that zen,Lucio, and brig are in a group… So does alot of the community but it just isn’t true.
But well written post. Good job! If this is how most ppl think then we are all closer to the truth.
Yes there are more layers to it but I think people think running things like Lucio/zen and zen/brig is wrong.
Which is pretty untrue. If anything running 2flex supports is the one thing pros will never do.
If anything the first categories are way more true of how the ow actually plays out.
Lucio/zen is way more viable than ppl think it just relys on mitigating poke dmg… and quick engages.
Obviously these rules become more concrete the more players learn to engage as teams and learn they don’t always have to walk forward shooting.
Once ppl understand these rules its way easier to climb… Honestly… You also know how to easily counter full agression from the enemy and fully defensive strats.
As Brig I can often beat Moira etc in healing.
Would that not edge her towards main healer?
Or is the lack of burst healing etc stop her being main healer. She supports too so can be tricky.
I do agree, this post isnt made to show which definitions are correct, or which comps are good to use, rather than what i think off and main supports and healers are
I dont think the healing output is directly the reason wether someone is a main or an off support/healer but wether their kit is meant for healing more, or something else more, and as Brigs kit is made for Supporting the team more, than some healers making her a main support, her kit isnt made to heal the team over doing damage or protecting her self, same as lucio
I like how you are creating and informative positive post I really like it and it’s very educating.
I don’t mean to come off as insulting or rude. I’m sorry for that if I do. I think if ppl followed your guidelines the majority of players would do much better.
I’m like trying to state the end game but alot of ppl can’t play ow well as a team so endgame doesn’t really apply for most solo q enviroments
I guess what I’m trying to say is your saying the right thing and I’m being a that jerk guy that always holds his finger up and says “actually this is correct” but keep it up. You’re doing the more understanding thing here
Nono its fine, i want to have people tell me what they think i did wrong, as i can base my next posts on the knowledge i gain from the replies i get from these posts
I am trying to convice community for over a year now that in Overwatch we need more roles… not less! Its not my problem how they will make it work… I am not the one who get paid so much money to think the solution… Like as Paladins have Flanker role, like Heroes of the Storm has seperated the roles to Support and Healer! How hard is to understand it?
Its more acceptable to tell me somewthing like “we do understand it but we are bored to make it work” instead of messing with the roles.
They can do as many balance/rework changes as they like… without more roles nothing will work.
Zen is a support not a healer.
Brig is a support not a healer.
Sombra is a support not a dps.
Symmetra WAS (before rework) a support not a dps.
