Matchmaking feels probably way worse than it did and queue times are 3 times as longer now lol. No way this is normal
I donāt know whatās going on, but iāve never had this much one sided matches. Every game I played today was a massacre.
Didnāt you get the memo?
It is our fault that we have a false perception that matchmaking isnāt working.
While on forums, Reddit and YouTube there are thousands examples of bad, unfair matchmaking resulting in one sided stomps most of the time
I rather wait 10 minutes for a good match instead of 30 seconds but having to leave constantly after the first objective.
It is beyond frustrating it takes so long to match teams more strict and evenly among teams and groups
Sigh
Thereās a currently trending Reddit thread with people saying the same thing (on both points, but more about the worse stompy games). Itās on r/overwatch and is titled āTerrible matchmaking (in both QP and Comp) = more toxicity = game is not fun in two major ways. Do we need longer queues and better matchmaking for an enjoyable experience?ā
Well, if you want an actual answer you your question. Here are the answers I got from the guy who is working on the matchmaking.
And hereās my interpretation of it:
- They have enough players per Role, for almost all skill tiers
- But the matchmaking search ranges are too wide right now.
- And only using very few variables to indicate how skillful a player is.
- In a future update, they are going to narrow that search range, and use more variables to determine player skill.
just watch every post that mentioning matchmaking on /r/overwatch removed manually by mods
I still consistently significantly lower queue times for Support than any other role. Flex queue has given tank a little more commonly this season, but except on patch days itās still dominantly resulting in playing as support. I know Iām only playing quick play, and Iām willing to believe that number of support players isnāt the prime problem at the moment, butā¦
ā¦I suspect that theyāre using a fairly loose definition of āenoughā in that reply. I obviously donāt have data for what other players on other platforms are seeing, or across different time bands and geographical regions, particularly PC&comp, but my experiences point to āenoughā meaning something rather different than the ideal 1/2/2 ratio across roles.
Just feels like they should be doing more to convince people to main support, and that doesnāt really seem to be happening, even if it isnāt necessarily the most critical problem with matchmaking at present.
If they are even doing anything I donā think it is working.
TBH, dunno whatās really going on with that, but I kept implying thatās whatās going on, and Blizz_Winter kept saying something that sounded like thatās not whatās going on.
But there probably is a lot of variety between Skill tiers, Region, and PC/Console.
they of course are not going to admit a scarcity of players.
theyd rather paint the illusion of having a plentiful playerbase by botching the matchmaking to put any random rank in a match and call it āfairā.
The fact that you face the same loser tryhard stack groups over and over again in certain modes says everything. Even if you avoid the throwers on your team youāll just get 3 new ones to lose against them.
I bet they will never fix that. Blizzard is too proud to get back to something that was already working, they probably wasted a lot of time (money) on this piece of s*** MM.
precisely, i see many of the same people daily. in a game with an abundance of players, this shouldnāt happen as often as it does.
That is the problem āin a future updateā
They have been saying this since October and it gets worse every season.
The only thing they need to do to have more quality matches:
- enforce a very strict and tight skill MMR based matchmaking for the role you want to play
- fill the group with exactly same skilled players and good ping
- do the same on the opposite side so the numbers are mostly equally on both teams.
- the amount of solo players and grouped players should be exactly the same on both sides to minimize advantages/disadvantages by unfair soloās vs stack
As soon as people overperform kick their MMR up and match them accordingly
Every competitive shooter does this with great succes. But OW devs seem to want to try everything except the solution that usually works in other games.
I canāt see any difference. Every game tonight so far has been a stomp in one direction or the other. No different from usual.
I actually donāt even think the matchmaker is the problem. A single hero change can turn the game. We were stomping in a game earlier and they changed to Orisa and won the game. That was the only change that went from us stomping to them stomping. Itās just a stompy game. MM canāt fix that.
Itās terrible. I donāt know if itās worse or the same. Iām not sure about this game.
Match quality has been horrible lately, and seemingly only getting worse.
Stomps were a thing in OW1 and not exactly rare sadly, but to have them to this degree is absurd.
QP is a leaver fest as why would I want to sit in a match where I am just being beat with zero resistance over the course of it. Push is a horrid time to play as the game is usually decided in the first minute and now your choices are to leave, or fight fruitlessly for 9 minutes.
Not to mention all the leavers means constant backfills too. So far today I have played 6 games and 3 have been backfill. Basically backfilling off cooldown whenever not using a priority queue lol.
I think theyāre grouping up solo queue players with 3/4 - stacks bc I played 8 games today, 6 of them I was paired with 4-stacks and 1 of them a 3, against a group of 5 in all 8 games. Lost 6 games bc of it, really nothing I could do they werenāt even in comms.
On to play Apex, really not putting up with OW anymore. In the beginning of OW I would stick it out bc if I had lost it still would have been a good game. Now that matchmaking is even worse itās more of a reason to play a more fair, better balanced PvP game.
Keeping a close eye on it
