Diablo Immortal has made over $100 million in 8 weeks

Really surprised considering all the bad press, guess the “early April Fool’s” joke had a punchline and it was us all along. :joy:. I wonder if this will have any impact on Overwatch and it’s new monetization system?

Mobile games make a **** ton of cash, not surprising at all. Just look at games like Fate Grand/Order that have been doing it for years now and I have admittedly whaled for that game.

i mean going free to play and charging $45 for a skin is pretty clear signs that it is isnt it?

Blizz aint what they used to be, and im not holding my breathe for OW. OW2 isnt even a real sequel just a long overdue update they are trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes with.

This is a very obvious cash grab attempting to squeeze the community for as much cash as they can one last time before abandoning the game in my eyes.

Prime example of why “vote with your wallet” doesn’t work for monetization like this.

Game just needs to gouge money out of whomever it can, they don’t need to catch you… they have thousands of other suckers who fell for the f2p customer churn fest.

But hey, if you’re on the corporations side, HUGE SUCCESS right?

dont know if true but asmongold had this video about a dude who spent up to 100,000 in diablo immortal

I mean single purchase games have made that much if not more sometimes within their first month or two of release. So it doesn’t necessarily seem that far fetched. That being said, with it being a mobile game and f2p/microtransanctions I think DI will make a ton of money over its life compared to 1 time purchase games. But i believe a lot of news sources are running with this title of $100 mil in sales for clicks and that is a lot of money, but not comparatively a lot.

Unfortunately as long as the game is good, they can charge as much as they want for cosmetics/loot boxes, and people will still pay for it because of the massively large playerbase. Boycott will never succeed in doing any damage to it because they are only a small faction of the playerbase. Everyone has different values on how much they are willing to spend on cosmetics, and Activision-Blizzard targets are the mega whales.

The only time a boycott works is if a game is very bad, or two, the playerbase is very niche, thus small so the impact is very large.

While I’m not against paying for skins, their pricing is something I’m not willing to pay for. But like I said in my first statement, their targets are the mega whales (or Kraken as we like to call them in the mobile gaming sphere) and they will pay for it. Fish (or Minnow) and Dolphin player like me don’t matter to them.

Dolphin players will likely still pay for the Battlepass depending on how it is manage.

Yeah it’s not all that much in the big scheme of things, I just think it’s way more than expected given the high profile backlash the game and devs received at announcement… Guess that guy was right, people DO have mobile phones. :upside_down_face:
