DI monetization is OW2's Future

Just look at how disgusting the monetization is in Diablo Immortal. There are about 20 different ways they are trying to take money from you and most of them involve actual pay to win mechanics.

It makes you wonder how this will creep its way into OW2. Obviously its not a 1 to 1 comparison, but with the inclusion of PvE it could. Remember, project titan was an MMO after all. The monetization could involve some “pay to hurry up” style mechanics.

As far as pvp goes we already can pretty well guess it will involve a battle pass. Look at how DI has monetized their battle pass. There’s a 5 dollar option and a 15 dollar option. Then look at like prodigy’s path which is another long term battle pass.

When a game’s monetization scheme goes too far corrupts an otherwise good game I think players have an obligation to speak up and demand more from companies like Blizzard.

It’s a free mobile game with a PC port, what did you expect?

It was also born in the midst of perhaps the worse predatory period for Blizz.

Disappointing, but not unexpected.

Nope not even with PvE are they similar. One is a free to play mobile game and the other is a PC/Console game. Mobile games have established monetization and DI is fairly in line with those methods. Meanwhile PC/Condole games also have established monetization methods are OW has been in lockstep with those.

Basically it is as nonsensical as citing Hearthstone monetization.

that and they wouldn’t do something literally this bad when the game is basically hanging on a thread

I expected it to be bad, but apparently it is way worse than I imagined.

You need to spend over $100000 to max out a single character.

What the hell is wrong with those people? :joy:

I’ve been playing it for a couple days every now and again and have not felt the need to spend money.

You can apparently progress without buying anything it will just take you longer and you won’t have every thing you need immediately.

You know how games become boring when you use cheats and one shot everything, no thanks.

Yeah. The OW2 monetization will probably be disgusting as well.
The pvp will probably goes f2p considering how underwhelming it is in OW2.

you mean how it was in the first beta?

yes. It is unlikely to change significantly before the release.

So if it does, will you take back what you say?

Ughhhh this is one of those numbers quoted without context that make it technically wrong.

You have to spend that if you want to skip playing the game. This is like saying you have to spend $10,000 on lootboxes in Overwatch to get everything there is to have. It is technically true, but also not entirely accurate. DI is a pretty standard “pay to dodge/expedite the grind” model that people try to take the extreme with their quotes that just make their own argument seem silly.

I wouldn’t be bothered if the PvE side of OW2 has “pay to hurry up” monetization. I won’t be spending any money and will grind instead

Its so weird that OW2 is simultaneously incredibly unfinished having just ended its first beta and a complete game being played by pros in the main league instead of the established OW1.

I’m sorry but Diablo Immortal is a free 2 play phone-developed game. Pay 2 win is almost guaranteed

I have full confidence Overwatch 2 will not have anything remotely close to it besides maybe a battlepass

If it changes significantly in a way that I consider good then yes.

unrelated: but it’s weird how people don’t even want a battlepass, do they expect the current monetizion method to work long term? it didn’t even work for the last 3 years of OW1

How is a 5-15$ battle pass scary tho? Especially in overwatch where the only thing they’ve shown to monetize is cosmetics. Diablo is straight pay to skip gameplay. These games aren’t comparable.

If you don’t want to pay money, then don’t. Even diablo isn’t forcing anyone to buy anything, it’s just an option if you don’t want to grind a ridiculous amount for higher than average stats. Which is typical of phone games. Ow2 is not a phone game and would do great with a battlepass.

Oh so they give up at least on “no plans for pc” with this. I didnt know about that.

After seeing all the crazy monetization in DI, can definitely see some of it being ported over to OW2 PVE. Tiered battle passes, the crest dungeon system, and log in or lose dailies could be slotted in very easily.
