Devs: Look In To The Losing Streaks

Just here to report once again that the completely obvious and forced losing streak full of smurfs on the other team and complete, unwinnable stomps has kicked in today.

It was nice to recently win back the SR the game stole from me LAST time i had such a ridiculous stretch of horrible games. Yet, as always, the switch flips and now i’m seeing the worst game of all time. All in a row. Again, for the 1000th predictable time over the past 3 years. So, it’s definitely a problem with the game’s matchmaking.

Just reporting this phenomenon to the devs, which must be a bug because i have not seen anything like this in any other game in the past 30 years. Must be some sort of problem with the matchmaker, so i’d like the devs to be aware of my experience.

Thank you very much.

Ya … I have often noticed this trend as well. Whenever I reach season or career high, massive losing streaks.

I know many people will say that I merely went on a lucky win streak to rise up but then clearly didn’t belong where I peaked and then naturally dropped back down. I understand that point and do think there is merit to that dynamic. If I was dropped in a Masters game, I would pull my team down faster than anything. However, when these losing streaks occur, I am not seeing examples of being clearly out-skilled. Rather I am seeing clear examples of horrific team comps and conscious (and unconscious) throwers.

Suddenly those last two spots go Torb and Widow when we already have a Mcree and Pharah and you are on Zen as the only healer. Suddenly the DPS continue to run ahead and flank as you beg them to wait for the tanks to get back. Suddenly no one pushes ahead as you pop Transcendence on point and call for everyone to push.

It gets BAD. Suddenly you get that horrid duo-stack twice in a row that only runs (terribly) Sombra and Reaper. They think they are flank god’s and are not even in voice chat.

Now before anyone says that I am merely blaming teammates, I am not. No one is more vividly aware of his shortcomings than myself. I am in the rank I deserve and am trying to learn and improve. I almost loathe even making this post becomes I know it comes off like whining. Nonetheless, I do still see a distinct pattern.

Winning streaks are followed by massive losing streaks that do not reflect a sudden increase in opponent skill, but rather frustratingly obtuse teammates.

Perhaps it is merely anecdotal. I know there are many who would blow through my ranks without a loss. But we are all not GM’s. A GM player on Tracer can blow through the enemy team often completely negating the foolishness of the Reaper who wraiths into combat to “get there faster,” the Moira who throws nothing but dmg orbs, and the “silent warrior” Soldier who never communicates, keeps running in front of the Rein shield, and never takes the high ground. I, however, cannot.

How is it that I maintain a 60+% win rate? Why is it that any time I experience a losing streak, it’s because I was under-performing or playing when I shouldn’t, but when you get them it’s “obvs forced”?

You don’t think this has anything at all to do with you going against more challenging opponents?

No, not that I have noticed. I really don’t think there are massively more skilled opponents in mid Gold as opposed to low Gold or high Silver :stuck_out_tongue:

The interesting part is how sudden that flip of a switch can happen and remain for a long time. I’ve recently experienced a long loosing streak going from 3850 SR down to 3400 SR.

Sure, perhaps there might be some fault of my own that caused this, however it always remains the same of what happens:

Suddenly i get dps that just tries to flank to get that epic POTG and fails miserably. During a shield tug of war they never shoot the enemy shield, while mine drop in less of a second.

Suddenly i get the tanks that have no idea what they’re doing. Don’t play around with placement, nor annouce when their shield is close to breaking.

Suddenly i get healers that tunnel vision and have no idea of the world around them.

I swear, the people in this forum: “The number doesn’t hold any meaning, but my number should be getting bigger because I’m better than other people with similar numbers.”

I never said I was better. I was very honest about my own skill level. What I am saying is that there is often a sharp and drastic decline in the competence of teammates during these losing streaks that seem to appear around season or career highs.

I have lost games where the team was communicating and attempting to have a good comp and attempting to be coordinated. Those losses are wholly different than the steamroles that happen when you are solo healing 4 dps and a hamster …

  1. Maybe you’re not qualified or competent enough to evaluate how well your teammates are performing.
  2. Maybe if you spent less time trying to evaluate the performance of your teammates and more time doing your job you’d win more often.
  3. Composition doesn’t matter as much as people playing what they’re good at and not being tilted.

I’m sure you’ll ignore this, because people who want to blame external factors for their inability to climb always do, but I’ll throw this out there anyway: If you want to climb, then focus on improving yourself. It’s time tested and guaranteed to work 100% of the time. Get a coach, they’ll tell you the same thing and they’ll help you work out your kinks. There are many, many free coaching Discords out there willing to help, as well as paid options.

I said this about myself in my original post. I agree with you lol. Clearly YOU ignored what I said or skipped it.

If you agreed with me you wouldn’t be blaming your teammates.

Whatever man, if that makes you feel better, sure.

ILoveYou, if you don’t see it, fine. Go away, the rest of us are talking about our obviously forced and fake matchmaking.

Why are you so aggressive lol. I am in complete agreement that I need to improve. Acknowledging that does not mean there is no merit in the fact that sometimes you simply cannot outweigh horrible teammates. Both things can be true.

You don’t get to decide who may respond to you on the public discussion forums.

There’s no such thing as forced or fake matchmaking in Overwatch. You climb until you can’t carry your own weight, and then you fall. If you work to improve yourself you climb; if you spend all your time blaming external factors while everyone else is improving you fall harder.

Hmm, how do you know there’s no such thing? Plenty of people have said they see it. Blizzard hides everything. Hidden MMR. Hidden profiles by default. No scoreboard. Can’t even check your overall win % in game, especially Quick Play where you can’t even see how many games you lost.

Doesn’t seem like a very trustworthy company or game to me. Hide everything. Trust us folks, nothing fishy going on here! Buy more lootboxes…

That means absolutely nothing.

"You appealed to popularity or the fact that many people do something as an attempted form of validation.

The flaw in this argument is that the popularity of an idea has absolutely no bearing on its validity.
If it did, then the Earth would have made itself flat for most of history to accommodate this popular belief.

Example: Shamus pointed a drunken finger at Sean and asked him to explain how so many people could believe in leprechauns if they’re only a silly old superstition. Sean, however, had had a few too many Guinness himself and fell off his chair."

Yeah, heard it before. You’re saying the same old crap, pretending this game doesn’t have a major problem with it’s matchmaking that a lot of people are seeing.

Not sure why DENYING it so hard is that important to you.

Also, why don’t i see as many of these posts all about other games, if people just jump on any old bandwagon?

Yep, same old crap. Flawed argument is still flawed and still proves nothing.

If you want to climb, improve yourself. You’re not going to find another solution.

You seem stuck on the idea that i’m obsessed with climbing. No, i just want to play a game that i don’t have to dread my forced losing streaks. It’s the point where they’re predictable, which is beyond pathetic for a supposedly random matchmaker.

“Wanna climb, get good” is not an counter to “Hmm, this game seems to have extremely suspicious streaks.”

I don’t expect to win each game. I also don’t expect to sit and witness the matchmaker hand me 5 idiot games in a row every other day, with totally fine games on the opposite days.

Maybe a game like this would have a nice graph showing your progress in ranking up? That might be fun to see. Instead, we get nothing at all. Gee, i wonder if that’s because it would reveal the ridiculous streaks that people have been reporting since Day 1. In a game that used to reward or punish STREAKS. So, STREAKS were something they obviously had in mind from the start.

  • Ranked launched with streaks in mind.
  • Hide your actual matchmaking rating
  • Hide the actual win rate.
  • Make profiles private by default.
  • Players reporting suspicious streaks all of the time.

I don’t think it’s that hard to see there is SOMETHING wrong here.

My friend, I have been telling this to the overwatch dev team for 2 year now. They have called me a pretender and will not listen. Other forum user say that I am to be crazy or that I am some troll, slowly people are realizing that I have been telling the truth since so long
