I think this will be good news for many people!
Ranked Mode and Queue Times
We understand that many players in our community want to play a ranked mode in the PvP Beta, and that those systems are a great way to keep players engaged and enjoying competition. We made the choice to only run quick play in this Beta test for two primary reasons: first, because in a test with a limited number of players, we generally want to prioritize making matches more quickly over splitting players into multiple queues; and second, because we’re planning some significant overhauls of our core ranked and competitive mode systems, and those are not yet ready to test publicly at scale.
MMR reset mayhaps? Or maybe a complete overhaul of the ranks?
open to interpretation for sure! whatever happens, i am getting more excited about the game!
Hopefully by overhaul they mean that they will remove the rigging
again, open for interpretation if that is your take away
An interesting system that I’ve seen in other games is:
- Ranks from Bronze - Grandmaster.
- Each rank has 4 tiers.
- You need to win three games in a tier to move up.
- Losing a game will move you down (so if you had 2 out of 3 wins, you will move down to 1 out of 3).
- Playing better than others in your tier will grant you a loss prevention shield.
This makes losses feel less punishing, as you should have a loss prevention shield if you genuinely play better than your rank.
The biggest issue with this system is making it harder for smurfs to reach their real rank quicker.

With how they have also acknowledged that players have more individual impact in that blog post, I am wondering if they will follow Valorants model of ranked a little more closely with a bigger focus on PBSR.
I am imagining a world where pbsr gains can be up to 25 SR so that an overperformer potentially doesn’t lose any SR upon a loss. This would also be a great way to mitigate smurfing.
