I’m looking to clear some space off my computer’s hard drive and noticed that the Overwatch cache and data folders (Program Files (x86) > Overwatch > cache / data) take up ~24 GB each, leading to a total size for the parent folder of over 45 GB, even though the specs say only 30 GB max on the hard drive are needed for the game in total. I also wondered if it’s necessary to keep these files without ever deleting their contents in my local storage, since in-game account data should be accessible from any computer with Overwatch downloaded on it, though I profess to be only a student and thus no expert on the matter (certainly I don’t know exactly how the devs chose to make data load and save for the game). I haven’t done anything to either folder yet, but I am wondering: is it necessary for them to be so big, and what happens if I try clearing either one of them out?
Hey Sifakila,
The Cache and Data folders should be the largest Overwatch folders. They should be not as big as you are seeing them. Old game files may not have been cleaned up properly. To help clean up the files run the Repair tool.
If that does not help reduce the size of those files, recommend reinstalling Overwatch.
