It’s not even about certain words or phrases being toxic to be reportable, you can be nothing but positive but if enough people report you, you’ll get suspended by the automated system and blizz will ignore you and give you a generic copy+paste reply when you try to appeal it.

Because some people would like to not have that stuff on their screen at all, but some people don’t mind people in their party talking like that. Would you rather the game just remove it for everyone, no questions asked? And anytime those letters come together in a word… remove that too? …
Right… no … that causes a lot of problems.
So howabout maybe understand what the rules are and that there are concessions for those who aren’t about to report their friends in a closed chat/room and to make communication easier.

Why?
Why should there be extra coding done to coddle people who can’t control themselves? Better to let people incriminate themselves in logged text and let them catch the lesson. They keep doing it? It gets worse.
People ask things like “why does the game allow you to type the words they don’t want you to say” because they don’t want to be responsible for the consequences of their choices. No dice, You choose to write hate and vitriol you get nixed.
The idea that “I can do it, it must be allowed” is dribble. People need to take responsibility for themselves.

I kind of want to be able to add a list of strings that if posted, the post just doesn’t show up at all. “ez ez ez” “bots” and other such stupid crap just to try and upset people. I want to be able to set specific words that if used just hide the post entirely. No alternate less toxic version. Just a flat removal of the post for myself.

I would love this. A blacklist for chat. All competitive multiplayer games would be better if you could do this.
lol my user name is censored. I created my BNet account in SCBW.
Now it’s censored, I looked up what it means, apparently it’s a slur against jews somehow.

I have profanity off all the time since I don’t know the vast majority of slurs that are being filtered. Can’t even type 3 k, I’d love to do that.
the censorship option exists for you to protect yourself or your child from what you consider inappropriate as some people are more sensitive
the report system exists bc it’s blizzard’s job to protect the community from harmful behavior
bc people would find ways around it!
censorship is optional so you’d feel comfortable to use any word that you want and only the people who are comfortable with those certain words will able to see them
if it wasn’t optional people would use numbers and signs to type the curse word anyway and the people who didn’t want to see those kind of words would be forced to see them
you can be toxic without using any curse words!
people can tell you to kill yourself
people can call you an idiot
people can say that you were the worst player they’ve ever played with
what are they supposed to censor? “kill”? “idiot”? or “worst”? bc we use these words in many different contexts and at that point you’re better off disabling chat entirely which is also an option if that’s what it takes to protect yourself go ahead

You know it. For something called “support” they really give very little of it. They specifically avoid giving specific answers cause they’re scared of being memed on the internet… again.
Good luck with that. The “rules” are so vague just about anything goes. I can say someone telling me Santa isn’t real is mean, so I reported them and that counts.

GGEZ wasn’t removed because it was toxic, it was an April Fools joke that people demanded be brought back
I dunno why certain words aren’t censored since nobody is discussing Huck Finn or asking for cigarettes in chat, but I suppose Blizz is of the mind that if they leave players with a rope and they choose to hang themselves, so be it. If it was censored by default players might feel more inclined/safe to use them I guess?
Well… yes you can report them, But the chances of SEVERAL people reporting them within a short time are slim. Not to mention following the “don’t be a jerk” rule works wonders. If you never TRY to insult people or be mean, you aren’t going to get actioned. People act like being silenced/banned is an eventuality when it’s completely within your control.
the RULES are clearly stated and easily interpretable. Any time I’ve heard different it was someone trying to “but whatif” their way out of deserved punishment.
I don’t think it’s the words themselves that are reportable, but the fact that they are using them to insult other players. If someone just uses a curse word, yeah, I’m probably not going to report them. If they use curse words to call me a name, then yeah, they are probably being reported.

you can easily bypass filters like these just by adding a symbol on top of letters like gg êz and you can do that with any insult or slur too which means if people are really desperate to get the word off they will do it anyways ignoring any censorship or filters
There was many ways of ditching censorship for example:
Stupid healer = ****** healer
S tupid healer = S tupid healer
The real joke is how “selective” the censer ship is. Blatantly obvious words are left out, if they only target the “right people”. While anything remotely offensive to the right group is ban worthy. Censorship on a private platform makes sense to a degree. The problem I always have is selective censorship for select groups.
If the rules don’t apply equally to every one it’s just Tyranny.
