I’ve been watching owl and it’s super exciting to watch right now. I’ve seen all sorts of different comps.

I think the viewers are down significantly bc the game isn’t playable.

I think this is right, even though I watch it, at times I struggle to pay attention because it’s not really the same as what’s available to me at all.

Ya avian that’s where I’m at and my friends are. You consume the content relative to what you are playing.

People are complaining a lot of ow2 hero balance yet they are playing ow 1 and watching overwatch 2… times are strange rn. I’m enjoying watching owl tho even though I can’t play the game

It’s hard to watch without getting upset that everyone else is forced to play the bad/outdated version of the game.

i think if they would have kept the beta up it might be a bit better? lol

The viewing experience in an “FPS” game is so awful with no ability to change camera views… Give spec’s the abilities to watch a player in first person every other game does it? What makes OW so special to not have it?

Blizzard too lazy to once again program something as important as that and wonder why nobody wants to watch or really play this game?

2022 boys…

OWL 2022 is more like a big billboard than a sympathetic esport tournament. it makes you remember who the privileged are and that you are just a spectator. not a gamer ready to curiously imitate the tactics of your favorite teams in a competitive mode.

reminds you how Ow2 beta was turned on immediately to be a fully functional machine in the bare minimum necessary to get to a tournament circuit. for a truly competitive and clan system to try for the community that plays at home on their devices? there is only a huge “coming soon” or an undefined competitive alternative.

oh, and let’s not forget the skins: the real legendaries still visible in OW1 are the OWL exclusives as reaper and certainly others in all phases of 2022. entering for extra tokens is certainly convenient, but lately there are multiple complaints of free token league earning bug.

I understand that the eSport business can hardly be stopped (contracts with players, agreements, etc) but … we quite agree that the community must ALWAYS be content to remain patient because Ow2 is coming. however, it also appears that the world would collapse if OWL is not organized every single year. the criticism that OwL is ruining the perception that one should have of Ow, this year more like a “cinema videogame” rather than a videogame, is not entirely wrong. now that the beta arrives we will be quiet again, but when the hiatus for the anniversary remix vol 3 arrives, Ow1’s skin slot sensation will be hugely stronger than before. but cheers love: the OWL is still there!

I’ve found the camera work to be terrible in OWL this year. They clearly try to focus on specific heroes in order to see people pop off, but we often end up watching Tracer or Widowmaker stare at a wall while important plays happen off-screen.

Having said that, OWL is broadcast across multiple YouTube channels and multiple platforms (for countries like China). 30k is not the total viewer count.

30k has been the OWL average for a while, it’s like 25k token earners and 5k actual enjoyers. Overwatch just is not a game a layman could turn on and watch and understand and not be confused the entire time. Especially not with the new 5v5 speedrun Overwatch. The only people who watch OWL are people who also play Overwatch. Those numbers will likely only increase when OW2 is out and a whole new influx of players join the community and either want OWL skins or to learn the game.

The fews times I checked it, the video quality seemed low…

And also, its hard to understand when we re not able to play the game.

The excitement of playing on a OW2 build has worn off.

if wasn’t for the tokens it would have been even less.

blizzard made the mistake of making the owl switch to overwatch 2 before the game was even in the public consciousness. Most people already regard it as “the same game” amd they know it’s not out yet, so why sould they assume overwatch league is playing on it?
I’m talking casually

I mean, the game has not even a beta up and running currently. If there is no game to play, why should people bother watching it. Especially when it’s a work in progress.

This OWL season was stupid from the start in my opinion.

I don’t think thats a “Blizz is too Lazy” issue as we had that feature back on Twitch IF you had the paid All Access Pass.

I wish I was the cameraman in the owleague :video_camera: :face_exhaling:
:chart_with_upwards_trend: :point_up_2:

It literally has not been released.
Now when betas are going out, views will spike to 1M or more and doomsayers will throw an excuse that it is because beta etc … man some people can never be happy and admit that OW2 will not crash.

Kinda weird spending time on OW forum just to be a debbie downer

It’s probably because no one players Overwatch.

However,

This is definitely premature.

No wonder, imagine streaming a game for weeks that is not released and except people to follow what’s going on, that’s just a bad move from blizzard, they are just destroying the hype

Actually, numbers are low because there’s no access to the next beta by “watching” (afking during hours) the OWL :man_shrugging:.
