Honestly, I don’t really understand the mentality here. So your team comp sucks, and you’re just going to make it…worse?
Why resign to RNG right at the hero select screen? Why not just try to make the best of the situation?

Tanks are rare nowdays. People either play support or Dps. In comps some players will break and play tank but usually without any synergy with rest of the team

You don’t have to fill. You are free to play any hero you want. However, if you do you forfeit the moral high ground to criticize anybody else’s hero choice since you are doing the same thing they are.

This depends. If we are short a tank in comp, I’ll probably switch. If we are in quick play, I’ll just go dps, chances are I’ll be better at dpsing that most of the instalockers.
So… be a doormat for your instalocking team?

if you purposely make a suboptimal pick because you’re annoyed by what your teammates pick, doesn’t that just make you a soft thrower? personally, i’d rather try win games than lose right at the beginning.
Some players believe they are entitled to their insta-locks one-tricks for some reason and expect other players to always be the fill.
Nope, I would rather lose than confirm their fantasies.

no it’s not necessarily throwing. maybe that’s all they can play. making it even worse by refusing to fill when you can is definitely soft throwing. just play the best you can, avoid them, and move on.
i think the whole mentality is kinda immature. I suck at main tank, but I’ll still try to play Winston if I think he’ll work, or if I absolutely need to, I’ll pull out my garbage Rein and try to help the team lol

OP’s attitude is a perfect example of why Overwatch is a fundamentally flawed concept.
People see playing tank and support as ‘doing someone a favour’ rather than as a fun part of the same game. The only ‘fun’ role is dps because people thought they were signing up to play a shooter, so when someone keeps being asked (by random strangers, might I add) to not play a shooter so that others around them can… what else is going to come out of it than a load of toxicity?
Blizzard has designed a game for people, but has totally ignored how people actually are. So you get everyone acting selfishly and saying “I’m not doing the boring thing, you do it” just like OP.
Like I tell people in game who refuse to cooperate and form a team, but still whine at others and spam ‘thanks’ voice lines : You are a part of the problem.

What if you yourself aren’t good at support or tank? They still won’t switch.
It just seems to be rewarding selfish behavior to me. They didn’t have to instalock dps heroes either.

Personally I don’t really get the “DPS is the only fun role in the game” thing.
Imo, Overwatch is most fun when a 2-2-2 plays as a team. When tanks actually have their team follow them, when DPS get kills, when supports get help in the backline, that’s when the game is at its best.
Ask yourself this – is a game of 6 DPS on both sides more fun to you or a game where everyone is playing the team game as well as they can?

The problem with tanking is that you are usually at the mercy of your healers
You can play a tank like rein and struggle to make space for your team because you lack supports, or you could just go play dps and kills 1-2 people…you get more value playing a solo dps and you are less reliant on others
there are some exceptions…for example hog…you pretty much play him as a dps and you have a ton of sustain as well

If I’m enabling their insta-lock choice of character for 5th time while they won’t fill a single darn off healer, then yeah, I am doing them a favour.
I expect from others the same I have to offer: Fill, flex, consideration. Give me that and I’ll will be your shield and pocket your back holding M2/M1 until the cows come home. Don’t, and then demand I do it for you, I’m gonna pick Sombra and try to win without you.
