There seems to be a very small delay with every ability. If I’m about to be hooked (I see the hook coming at me) and I press the key to Fade, Cryofreeze, Roll, etc, it pretty much never works. Same for using these abilities to save my life when I’m low health.
I also constantly get killed after I’ve dipped behind a wall.
I’ve checked many things:
Internet (is fine)
Hardware (can handle it)
Triple buffer off and reduce buffering on
IND stays around 20
These are classic signs of a connection problem. Check out the in-game netgraph (ctrl+shift+n to toggle if on PC). If you see lots of orange blocks that’s connection trouble, white is hardware issues.
I only see spikes of orange when the icons for packet loss or network connection comes up and it’s extremely brief, otherwise white and orange is very stable.
Wireless, I’m unable to do wired as the router is in a room above me. The constant appearance of the packet loss and network connection icons in-game started happening recently maybe since a month ago. Nothing has changed aside from my computer doing updates, afaik.
Unfortunately, it sounds like there may be interference on the home network. Maybe a phone, home appliance, or something like that. You may be able to confirm with a WinMTR test.
The home network is very laggy, with ping hitting 196ms before it leaves your house. Assuming you’ve rebooted everything, you may need to move the router, add an access point, or replace some of the components creating the connection.
I’m not entirely sure how I could add access points since the router is directly above me. If I put one in the hallway outside my room I feel like that’d do nothing. Might just be that Comcast stinks.
Thank you for the help btw
Do you rent or own? If you own, might be time to drop a line from the source to your PC. If you rent, you could try something like an ethernet over AC setup.
I used to have this issue myself and it was due to my Roku streaming device. Other streaming devices may also be the culprit but they tend to overdraw the amount of bandwidth that they need and cause Overwatch to spike.
I was able to partially fix this by setting a dual band on my router and connecting the streaming devices to the 2.4ghz band and using the 5gz band for my wireless pc dongle.
I own but there’s an HOA. I was thinking of running a cable out the window of the room above me and into the window of my room to my computer but the HOA might make a stink about that.
@Sphynx
I have 2 Rokus! I’ll check that out, thanks
I wouldn’t recommend holes around the windows. Just drop it through the wall it’s near and create a new outlet. That won’t be controlled by HOA and won’t cause air/weather leaks.
