So in the new short story there’s this one bit:
"Sainclair pulled the trigger twice. The bullets ricocheted off the shield, shattering the panels of the giant
French windows overlooking the grounds. "
Is it possible that Mauga would have an ability to deflect bullets with his shield, like Genji but way bigger and probably way more annoying and OP? Is it just that every shield in Overwatch deflects bullets and not absorbs them- I don’t think they ever described Rein’s shield that way.

I mean, the shield would behave like a normal shield all the time, and Mauga could use an ability to make it deflect for like maybe a second or two

there is a difference between ricochet and reflecting. whenever genji reflects something it goes to wherever he is looking, while ricochet bounces it off at a specific angle (so bullets would go everywhere).
but lets first see if or when that character gets added, then see if it is an ability and if so then we’ll see how it works
if ricochet mech is a thing, wouldn’t it cause stray bullets/projectiles fly randomly around the character.
But how much impact does it do on the field?
Would opponent get hit by these stray bullets with hi/low chance?
Would it make opponent to stop shooting at him, and almost has a similar feel when against Zarya?
Sounds like a serious threat to Ana players with a trigger finger on their Sleepdart.
I think is just narration, I don’t see that in the game. unless it only damages enemies in a really close range, But a deflect ability with a biiiig hotbox is just crazy
Could just be storytelling about a more physical shield. Bullets do ricochet off shields.
It will most likely be an ability like Shield Bash. So you can only use it when he has his shield up and you have to press a button in order to use the deflector.
What if it catches incoming projectiles and hitscan rounds to disperse back at the attackers later.

Eh, its more likely we were just given a more accurate description of how the projected shields act in the overwatch universe, they dont straight up disappear they hit it and can ricochet off

Deflecting bullets brings it down like other shields, pretty simple.
This is something I was actually wondering about.
I have not personally taken any Machine gun fire in my life but I’ve seen what it can do thanks to Myth Busters and the amount of force it would take to withstand a giant mobile machine gun like Bastion would be off the charts.
I know Rein and Brig have armor or what no but trying to use a shield to stop that force would shatter your arm. I’ve always like to assume that these energy barriers have a way to absorb and disperse each point of impact.
Not saying Maui here has a new type of barrier, I think it was just some creative writing to paint a more vivid picture.
Deflecting means the dude would mean this dudes feeling the full impact of every bullet. Which also makes me scoff at Genji reflecting a bastion. That lil sword would shatter, not to mention the heat that would be created in the process.
Maybe it deflects and takes damage? The deflected damage could be much lower. It could be like Deffence Matrix on a resource meter.
