Define abusive chat please

So I see a lot of games where we lose and someone will say something like “trash team” or something similar? seems to be a common epidemic that I see a lot of just angry players getting away with. It’s in QP so I’m not sure if it’s just something and maybe the only thing that we can’t really report on ? How is abusive chat defined? the in game description doesn’t really give me much to go on.

Anything that is toxic can be considered abusive chat as well as any kind of spam.

i think abusive chat is more like specifically targeting a member of your team or anyone else in the game and harassing them, or sending messages that are toxic/harmful in nature. i run into a lot of angry racist people too rofl

What the person above me said, targeting specific players can be classified as abusive chat. But it’s a lot more than just calling a team trash to be considered abusive.

A clear cut abusive chat would be homophobic, racist, or sexist remarks. Anything about “skill” or “trash talking” is kinda a blurred line

“any form of hateful, discriminatory, obscene or disruptive communications.” according to the in game definition

Abusive chat is anything that the reciever could find abusive.
Forcing them to switch.
Commenting about their skill (in a bad way)
Targeting a female (or male) player.
Etc.

Never ever ever ever ever type anything in chat. Learned the hard way.

People define abusive chat differently. One person’s joking around is abusive to someone else.

What is abusive chat?
Generally I would say chat that is clearly intended to hurt or upset another player. So for example, “GG EZ” is not just irritating, it’s abusive - the only reason one would say it is to belittle the enemy team. By contrast, a member of my team can call me “you bastard” and I’ll laugh if it’s meant as a joke. Context is everything, I think, which means that there’s no adequate explanation that’s also short and pithy.

you’re saying GG EZ is abusive? LULW

even with context i don’t think it’s really anything that could ever be considering abusive chat.

Well, seeing as you don’t see the problem with it, try seeing how people react in competitive matches - and how Blizzard’s moderators react when they see all the reports. YOU may not think it’s offensive, but other people do.

You’re part of the problem then.

Targeted harrassment, racial slurs, making serious accusations against an opponent with regards to aimbots to the point of lunacy…stuff that they’d never actively say if they were in the same room as any of the people they play against basically.

It’s a shame the word “toxic” stopped meaning anything specific and just turned into “something I don’t like looking at” in early 2017.

‘gg ez’ is irritating at worst. if you’re seriously going around reporting people just because they’re adding a pinch of salt to a win, you should probably rethink your definition of abusive…

I’m not an oracle, but something tells me you’re going to either get banned pretty soon, or you’ve already been banned. You’ve got that cavalier attitude towards other people’s feelings that goes with the territory, it seems :frowning: Again, it doesn’t matter if you think GG EZ is offensive or not - it matters what other people think. We decide how we react. Not you.

The intention of saying ggez is to agitate and demean the opposing team; that is, inarguably, indisputably, and factually abusive behavior.

No, it’s not on the same level as yelling racial slurs, but it’s still very much unnecessary abuse of people who just lost.

A member of the winning team not satisfied with bonus xp and a shiny “VICTORY!” fairy dust sprinkled across their screen pounding out “gg” in match chat before the losing team says anything is a bad winner and needs to accumulate the proper punishment reports. But it is ultimately futile as they never learn their lesson anyway.

Can we get this pinned to the top of the forums maybe?
