Decrease in Voice Chat Usage?

A bit anecdotal, but a few weeks prior to role queue beta, it seemed like less and less people were joining voice, and on top of that, if they did, just didn’t talk.

Seems to be exacerbated with 2-2-2.

Maybe it’s just end of the season pricks followed by a beta - so no one cares - but anyone else notice this?

from what sources I’ve heard, it’s because you can no longer see groups anymore, even in your own team. It’s quite possible you have a couple two stacks or a four stack in their in party chat leaving just a couple in voice. Even then there are some who just don’t join, so now it feels as if there is less, because for some reason seeing people in groups is toxic or something, who knows.

I’m inclined to believe it however, as it’s the same kind of thing they did with HotS. However, hiding the fact you’re putting a couple two stacks against a six stack or randoms against a four stack doesn’t solve the problem of it even occurring in the first place.

It’d help if we had a volume adjuster for mics like in discord. Some Mics too loud, some too quiet and it’s not always the persons fault.

I know it won’t help a lot to bringing people to comms, but it’d help…

its because now you cant swap roles to cover issues in the team, so there is really no point to join chat because your not swapping, your just complaining about someone elses gameplay. just play the best you can and if you lose meh, if you win yay.

Because the verbal river of salt gets incredibly tiring after playing alot of games. its to the point where i would throw the second someone had a complaint about anything, so i just dont join voice anymore.

atleast thats my reason.

It would be nice if the toxic people I “block” Stay Blocked when i close the game and re-open it because I blocked them for a reason and if I feel like it’s been enough time to see if they improved their attitude after i see em again rare as it is. I’ll give it another go.

But right now I block someone it lasts until my client closes and then I end up getting same person 2 weeks later. Recognize the account, voice and attitude. The cycle continues >_>

So, the game is a little different now with 2-2-2, but this attitude will be part of the issues going forward.

It’s always easier to say “does anyone wanna swap roles” than to suggest some specific change, but since we’re all locked in, specific changes are all we have. Interpreting it your way? Just stick to QP after the 3rd.

Often the issue isn’t even the hero, it’ll be small things like not peaking your Ana when they say they can’t see you, and then you die all because you’re too stubborn to accept it’s a team game that requires compromise to be optimal within a given team.

EDIT: I should mention the username fits.

All im saying is the DPS moria who has thrown zero healing orbs and has wraithed into the enemy backline every 15 seconds that was a DPS player that didnt want to wait in the dps queue is yelling " I HAVE 3 GOLD MEDALS, WHERE THE F IS MY TEAM HOLY CRAP DPS YOU GUYS SUCK" is not my version of enjoyable voice coms.

This is literally every other game in some shape or form. No thanks.

At the end of the match, when the team loses, people start blaming. With 2-2-2 they get super frustrated not being able to counterpick themself and when the team doesn’t pick what THEY want they push all their frustration from being locked into a role onto their teammates in voice chat.
I’ve never ever felt so bad in a game, it’s unenjoyable.
The problem is that you need the voice chat because it’s a team game.
It’s actally so super bad that I’ve uninstall the game.
People can’t handle the amount of frustration that comes with 2-2-2.

I turn all voice and text chat off now.

95% of the time voice chat is either silent, toxic, or just full of useless comms.

and I don’t think text chat should be a thing as it just makes people sit about typing, when they have a job to do.

Antidotal as well: but I no longer talk in voice chat with role queue. I honestly don’t feel there is great benefit in low gold.

I used to talk in voice chat all the time because I solely used LFG to avoid solo queue and get a team that worked together. Most groups required voice chat and it worked because we were a 6 stack that stayed through multiple games so you had time to create stratigies.

I stopped using LFG because role queue gave a similar effect to what I wanted from LFG - pick my role before going into a game.

In my opinion, one match with a team isn’t enough time to really create enough group synergy to get any benefit from voice chat.

Me and a bunch of my friends were suffering from a really annoying issue that prevents us from joing VC permanently. I’ve asked some other people on the Overwatch Discord server and a bunch of others has been experiencing this problem.

100% right, unless playing with a friend (and therefore in group chat) I have all comms turned off. I just follow the main tank about (unless I am on that role). You shouldn’t need to tell people where to do, people should just know to follow the main tank(s).

If that tank is useless, just keep going. Then at the end, hit avoid. Done.

At high levels, yes. At low levels, no.

Too few listen to valid callouts. Needed swaps for an easy win. Retreats. Advances. Last night was a common ‘Junk/sym vs pharmercy’ game. Didn’t see a hits an all match.

At high levels, most people play to win and act accordingly. At low levels, people play in clown shoes.

Right now, I can’t use voice chat even if I wanted to. Many of us console heads have had this issue since the Summer Games. I’ve decided not to play comp until that issue gets resolved.

Just promoting this post/line sorry
