Death Blossom in 2025

Not sure if Reaperheads have any thoughts about this, but… I feel like blossom kind of takes a million years to do anything after the health increase. I know this is kind of controversial because it’s potentially a pubstompy ult, but like… with the health increase and the dps passive affecting Reaper’s self-heal during ult and heroes like Juno, isn’t it kind of fair to decrease the TTK on this? I’m kinda of two minds on it I guess, but it’s not like the rest of Reaper’s kit is super crazy busted to justify a weaker ult? Like maybe let me wraith cancel at least #idk. I’m a casual reaper enjoyer though, so maybe I just have to keep working on my technique (no i don’t make myself the most obvious ult ever by wraithing through everyone)

A lot of the time they kinda just all walk out bc they have so much extra time or mobility. It’s kind of better as an execute

Oh thank god, because that is the only reaper ult I see a lot of. And then they seem surprised when everyone blows their cooldowns to stop them.

I feel like the biggest enemy of a half decent reaper ult is a lack of patience a lot of the time. That and people desiring that elusive ‘5-man kill.’ If they used it to assasinate fewer, weaker targets more often they’d see better results.

I do think that reapers ult needs a little something. It’s not the kind of ult I even remotely worry about. Which, as a support main, I feel like it should be more an ongoing concern.

It’s been known for years that Reaper’s ult is terrible to use solo. You have to use it with a support ult, graviton or earth shatter. Due to suzu, anti heal, sleep, boop and DM you just can’t use it most of the time solo. I usually solo ult one of the supports with it after baiting them to use their cooldowns with wraith. Otherwise the enemy team is basically guarantee to kill me if I use it without support from my team.

Reaper as a whole is a near obsolescent character. Junker Queen, Roadhog, Venture and now Hazard do his job better (close range guy). Ever since they decided he shouldn’t be a tank buster he’s been relegated to “worse tracer”. I hear he’s good at the lower levels, but once yoi start fighting good Ana’s, Kiri’s, Hazard’s and Venture he feels like a near throw pick.

His kit needs a rework including his ult.

I find myself just kind of planting it down on the Ana and/or Juno, haha. It’s just in a weird place. At least Pharah gets to move while barraging now, but like… Death Blossom gets nothing but increased lifesteal if you use it right after Wraith, and I haven’t tried that combo out enough to see if it actually punches through the dps passive enough to be worth over secondary fire, lol. It really feels like something that should have been scaled up when the health pools increased, but didn’t it not get touched?

To me it’s always been that there’s a specific ability that counters Blossom. Part of it is balanced: it shouldn’t be a win button. However, it also tends to result in a trade (you kill a squishy and you die too). Most of the time it doesn’t make sense to pop unless your team is using one or two other ults. Compare that to every other DPS ult (not Pharah’s) and he’s the most likely to die while using his.
