New accounts always start low plat / high gold.

It’s the middle of the curve.

Ik, in my first rankeds I placed in low gold but, 3 people of lv25-30 against a 2stack of lv2400 and one guy soloq almost at the same level, this shouldn’t be something possible.

dang, ya I just had a game with a dia support, an unrranked genji with 4k on tank, and a 2k gold tank. I was tank (2391) against all golds. Needless to say, we rolled them.

It’s a garbage algorithm that’s easily manipulated. It’s been that way from the start. Should have brought in some non-COD ranked devs and maybe it would be better. Role queue made it slightly better than what it was, but opened a list of issues. It should have been a start from bronze then rise up type system, not a lets start you in gold/plat and then you’ll drop as you learn while ruining other player’s games and screwing up the baseline for the game. Getting out of gold and plat was the worst due to that type of crap…

Had a gold game where our Soldier got 80% kp as he pretty much farmed the enemy solo.

He was a masters dps, but had dropped to gold by playing support before 222. So he’s placed gold for his dps placement games in 222…

Yea thats 100% fair. Masters awareness and reflexes vs gold :frowning:

Does make me wonder how he sank to gold as support? It’s an easier role, imo. Less mechanically demanding at least. Maybe he lacked team sense? He was going on a lot of mad flanks in our game, but was in comms telling us about them, and racking up 3-4 kills each time… I’d have though he’d have rocked as a support. Weird.

Probly ranked decay and not warming up before comp soo he was super rusty.
Also as one who usually plays support. Some games can be unwinable in solo queue soo that may also be a thing too

Thank you. It is garbage no question. Putting everyone in bronze and letting them rise is the best way. I am sorry this makes it suck for new players, but they won’t know any better tbh. Alts, Console Refugees, ā€œsmurfsā€ etc. will get whats coming to them in quick order. If 10-15 placements is enough, that will sort them out fast enough.

They need to do this along with an MMR reset starting in OW 2.

Borders don’t mean anything.

then it’s fair playing against 3 people that spent thousands of hours in this game and 3 people in your team that started playing yesterday? I normally don’t care about the borders but this is another level of unfairness

This is a wild assumption. They could be people on second (or third/fourth) accounts.

Like I said, Borders don’t mean anything. There are diamond borders in bronze and no star bronze borders in masters/gm. Just because someone spent a lot of time in this game, doesn’t automatically make them the best (especially if people send their time having fun and not tryharding). Best example is me, I am level 3810. Does that mean I have a college diploma in competitive Overwatch and make me a genuine Grandmaster for all 3 roles? Of course not. Sure I might have ā€œsomeā€ game sense but that doesn’t make me the best since there are people who spend wayyyyyy less time on this game and have manage to surpass overall career high in one season than what took me 13 seasons to acomplish.

Thats why we cant pass Gold . this system is bad . New player must start in Bronze .

Yes new players should start in bronze, but not new accounts.

Nope let them all including the smurfs . The smurfs need to feel the grinding .

This is a bad idea. Not only smurfs can easily climb out of bronze, it would encourage more smurfing. Starting at <500 or bronze would take less effort to get to bronze rather than from starting at gold. With the system we have right now, sure a person can easily get to bronze just by throwing their placements and go from gold to bronze but is more likely to get banned for gameplay sabotage/inactivity. Now you’re suggesting that every new account should start at bronze… Leave bronze for the new players not for new accounts.

Why not exactly, literally no harm in this. If as Jeff said the system ranks you accordingly after 15 matches, then by around level 12 you are properly ranked. If you’re playing against totally new players, they won’t know the difference, since 80% of the players now are alts / console refugees who cares about the 20%. When we say ā€œbronzeā€ we mean in terms of MMR, not SR. You still place normally at level 25 which means you could be GM
