It’s unfeasible. TPM chips can be swapped since a lot of them is on a jumper. Overwatch can run via proton in Linux and you’re alienating too many users when they’re already hemorrhaging users. The SMS requirement was already egregious but that frog was boiled and any further discussion should’ve been seized. If a strategy is to exist, authoritarian will absolutely not be it.
Wasn’t this a thing when cross play was launched in OW1? But no one was opting out cause the queues were insane?
That’s called a MAC adress
Yes that’s true.
But in my opinion it’s the only right way. You have to combat cheaters like you do with Hackers.
Ok. To make it more clear, I wasn’t talking about MAC of a specific NIC or a single device. But thank you for this comment.
I always defend OW when it comes to unfair criticism but if there is one thing that annoys me its that they balance the game based on what the highest ranked players/content creators think, most of those guys are really out of touch with the majority of players and ignore problem characters. Them doing that made it so if you’re a lower rank you always hear “just get good” or “that isn’t a problem in higher ranks” as if those are the only players that matter.
Ive seen a lot of console players. I know for a fact it runs pretty damn awful on my PC, which has some decent components inside.
if they fire the current director, would you consider sticking around?
might be the change we need for population/numbers.
Just go play Marvel Rivals. It’s like the old Overwatch, only more janky.
You know most people have temporary IP addresses which change when they reconnect to their ISP right? Only people that pay extra for static addresses keep the same address. They ban your IP then the next person that gets allocated your IP address is banned and you no longer are.
Learn how IP address allocation works perhaps.
They could ban you by hardware ID but there are ways to change that in software so OW would see a different one each time you start it.
well… they are really bad balancing the game but i dont want game where everything is about hardcounter the enemy picks. this is stupid.
no one hero should transform enemy picks on troll picks just for exists
No, console players have aim assist in a PC lobby. You can’t hit anything as widow has nothing to do with aim assist. It’s becaus they nerfed her hitbox 2 weeks ago. Read the patch notes.
This is so hilarious as an IT guy.
I’ll ive you one “small” example.
Literally no ISP or cellular network in India gives “static” IP unless you explicitly opt for it cause you got some fancy equipment at home or are tech savvy.
They are all running dynamic IP, and this is the most populated country on the planet.
So IP bans == completely overall waste, will it help? it will probably cause more false positives than it would help.
In Unranked games tho, you can easily walk out of this by going ranked.
Although i do belive if the game had a bigger usebase it could afford having the option in unranked too.
When did that happen? never heard of that happening - any citations of this?
Do note: PC players can go against console on unnranked only.
I do remember they added something that ximmers will be matched against other ximmers, maybe thats what happening to you?
They do, its just an unhappy balance each time overall, the cummunity whines a lot after all.
and they still do, the game is often memed as “counterwatch”, that didnt happen for no reason.
Moira is a very easy to deal with hero tho.
Sombra on the other hand, I agree on the sombra hate
100% agree with you on this. so true.
Although, I also think if you balance anything to suit gold rank players (which is the middle avg) - the top ranked will just take advantage of it anyway, thats how they rank top after all, by taking advantage of patches.
You can adjust anything to help gold rank but the changes will push those rankers up, lower ones will go up and take their place and suffer new issues.
Meanwhile, top ranks tend to leverage everything so they grow regardless, problem seems to remain the same (correct me if im wrong with a solution or different explanation).
Cya, take care, we wish you the best.
It does look like you got your money’s worth and way more, 20 years of time, a husband that loves you.
yeah IP bans do nothing and neither do Mac address bans. It needs to be them requesting ISPs to disclose user accounts and then Blizzard filing lawsuits against actual cheaters.
The rest agree… Playing Blizzard since 2007 and this game company is extremely low quality compared to what it use to be.
1 ) Match maker has been fully ignored.
2 ) Free accounts just comes off as desperation, especially for a company that said they would never allow free accounts or hand out game titles for free.
This is a BIG issue that is constantly memed on stream to many viewers.
There is a growing revival of PCMR and anti-crossplay sentiment. Likely because of aim-assist, io desync, and indisputably more bloated/unecessary codebase. FPS gamers don’t want it, and should be able to opt-out.
it’s bonkers to think console can opt-out, cried foul about XIM for years, and yet now PCMR can’t opt-out and can’t do anything about reverse-XIM.
At least let us leave without penalties if the lobby is completely scuffed at the base equality layer. We shouldn’t have to sweat in competitive to play with/against people of our own region/groupsize/platform.
Yeah yeah, streamer will do everything to get views.
I agree, i dont like console players on my games either, it makes it harder to tell if they are just good or sus.
I think the best way is to add a voting system
VOTE redo matchmaking if 7 out of 10 players agree and add reasons on why they want to redo it
The redo then rebuilds lobby from new pool
Maybe new map
etc
and it collects feedback noting down why people want to get out of this match they are in, was it the map? attack defense? ping? some known cheater on other side? etc.
and this should not let one cancel the match based on rank unfair or so, so you’ll probably have to disable showing profiles for the first 3 minutes of the game.
Another potential solution: they could increase the penalty-free leaving window so people can check if:
- it’s hosted right
- it’s not subject to crossplay overhead (desync, sus aim/hitreg, io clunk)
- it’s not some toxic 4 stack when you are a solo.
Right now, you barely have enough time to see if you’re in a match that was scuffed on the outset. These non-starters nullify any self-improvement, learning feedback, or fairplay motivation from playing the mode. Since they already took a stance on leavers, it stands to reason they want the games to be valid to some minimal degree. Meaning, we should be able to opt-out of those completely invalidating initial conditions.
Most people have dynamic IP addresses. “IP bans” aren’t a thing that works and really, they never have been.
Funny how both PC and console players seem to think they’re disadvantaged here. Mainly because…
Console players do have aim-assist when playing with PC players in Quick Play (which is the only place they can play together). If you still can’t hit anything, it’s not because of a lack of aim-assist.
Hate to break it to you, but this isn’t a new issue lol.
Again, not a new issue. Although I do agree with you.
A lot of issues actually, but this is what happens with a company that had a part of its employees harassed out of it, another part got sacked for rational or irrational reasons, leaving the rest lost throwing cosmetics or adding in-game changes without fixing notable problems in the game
No, you should be banning by Hardware ID as banning IP will just be purged and someone innocent has to fish for a working IP.
Yeah.
Do people still not understand what an IP address is?
I haven’t been able to grasp it on console, and I’m a heavy console player. It feels like playing a From Software Dark/Demon/Elden Ring game with shoulder buttons and not feeling any impact of collision detection.
There’s a way, but still avenues around it, and I’m not exactly sold on that kind of banning, as it is ethically dubious to me.
MAC addresses wouldn’t necessarily be useful for banning against more resilient players; there’s another method.
