I just don’t understand. I was 2470 SR, so close to Platinum, and then…
Game 1: Two throwers. Played Hanzo and Widow and were abusive to anyone who asked them to switch.
Game 2: Two throwers again. Different people, but both played Hanzo and Widow and didn’t join the voice chat or even speak to the team.
Game 3: Terrible team that didn’t know where the objective was.
Game 4: Terrible team that didn’t join the voice chat and therefore we had no communication.
Game 5: 2 low levels doing their placement matches, obviously not smurfs…What else can I say?
Game 6: A good team, yay! Communication was on point and the players were all good!
Game 7: A team that wasn’t cooperating, one person who was doing their placement matches for the first time and a coordinated 6 stack on the enemy team
Game 8: A thrower who played Hanzo and refused to switch. When my friend and I mentioned it to the enemy team the enemy team defended the thrower and were obnoxious. Somehow, no thanks to the thrower, we won.
Game 9: Two throwers that went Hanzo and Genji and refused to switch. The Genji was rude to everyone who was actually trying and asked him to switch. Hanzo left the voice chat and performed even worse than the Genji. We lost and I rage quit after that.
The question is, why the HELL is it that every time I am one or two games away from ranking up I get horrendous teams and dreadful games? I won 2 out of 9 games and it’s ridiculous considering I’ve spent most of the season around a 70 percent winrate. Blizzard, why do you want me to fail? I’ve been playing comp properly since season 5 and this happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I’m feeling defeated and frustrated and as if the game is trying to make me lose. I never solo-queue, I always play my best (which usually lands me with 3+ golds), I always use my mic and communicate with the team, I’m a flex who can actually play a good DPS, Tank and Healer and will do so if I need to, and ultimately, I just play to win, but at the end of the day (well…the season), all my hard work goes down the drain. Should I just give up? All I want is platinum because I’m tired of the s++t you get for being in Gold with a silver border. Is that so hard to ask?

i was 3293sr not too long ago and i lost like 20 games in a row (I actually was on a 20 game L streak) 2550 ish however i came back up
I had so many throwers and smurf who refused to play anything besides DPS (its not bad to have smurfs on your team but when you have 4 of them
However the worst game was when we had a 1 trick symmetra who obviously didn’t want to play anything else even though the enemy comp was
-
Winston
-
Dva
-
Widow
-
Pharah
-
Lucio
-
Mercy (pocketing Pharah)

It’s so painful. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if I didn’t have only 2 days left.
Everytime I see a thread complaining “whyyyyyyy meeee Blizz whyyyyyy I looooose whyyyy I droooooop from plaaaaat” I go sulk in the corner with my little silver. One day I’ll be gold and be just as whiny! I can dream… -
But no, I don’t think you’re cursed. If you’re experiencing loss streaks you should take a break. Focusing too hard on your goal will strain your resolve.

I would report that Sym this is clearly a case where hero choice has been used to intenionally throw the match and should be reported as such.

he’s a one trick i don’t think you can report that.
That’s the problem, I don’t have time
I was the lowest of low Bronze in season 5. So unfairly placed there, I climbed like it was nothing until I got to about 1100, then lost all my games because I climbed too fast. I genuinely think it’s something in the matchmaker that intentionally puts you in worse games if you climb too fast because it happens to me every time, hence why I can’t get to where I belong which, if I may be so immodest, is probably at least platinum somewhere. But yes, I used to dream so big of Gold, thinking of how cool I would be when I got there, but honestly Gold is the worst rank I have ever been in. Not even joking, I got better players in Bronze. And I can confirm as I have played on my friend’s account and he is Bronze, the players actually want to try and most are honestly misplaced down there. But Gold is a stagnant pool of toxic scum. Bleurgh.
Believe me, when you get to Gold one day it really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I’ve had more pain here than anywhere else
Yes, I’m super salty about this hahaha…
One tricking does not mean you can get away with throwing matches though, it’s not a report for picking a hero you don’t like it’s a report for doing nothing but feed the enemy free ultimate charge willingly and intentionally.

If they’re behaving like that one did, report away. The less of those tragic players the better.
This happens all the time in every rank I’ve been at. My guess is that this behaviour is built-in to the match making to gamify your climbing experience. Soon you will notice that the games get easier again, your team wins even if you don’t do so good and suddenly after a win streak you are back up to the same SR you started falling from.
With this account I climbed from high silver (1950) to diamond (3100) and each time I was one game away from entering gold, plat, diamond I was pushed down FOUR times. Always one win away, then 3-4 unwinnable games. But I kept grinding and on the fifth time the system allowed me to rank-up.
It’s not your skill ceiling like people will tell you, you may be close to it yes but some losses are forced on you. I have proved that you can be placed in games where there’s 0% win probability by playing a game at silver where my child’s account was one game away from a new career high. Even though I play 1500SR higher I wasn’t able to change the outcome of that game. Tells a lot of how unbalanced that game was and how bad my team members were.
Funny though, I did make a dive back to plat (might have been as low as 2730) by playing with my lower level friends on this account. After I started playing solo q again I climbed back to diamond quite fast without having to go through the four times rank-up thingy. Probably because I had already been in diamond.

Allot of players have this sudden losing streaks, yet the “pro’s” will just tell you to get good lol.
Anyway i experience the same on 3 different accounts

we’ve all been there. Its also typical for end season matches. Not playing is also a shame, because for me comp is the only game format that I really enjoy the most. Just get an alt account to play near the end. It will be less frustrating than losing all your hard grinded sr in the end of a season.

That was beautifully written, thank you so much.
And that’s exactly it. I’ve been in the lowest of the low Bronze, and every time I was about to hit a milestone in my climbing (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500) I would have the most abominable loss streak, the games are unwinnable, but this has been the worst. Put with the worst teams I have ever been in, no exaggeration (all DPS, 40% or less winrates), while the enemy teams have a mix of good players, better SR, groups, higher winrates all round. I genuinely think that the system does this on purpose and it’s sickening. WHY is ranking up such a bad thing? 9 Games and only 2 I won, and the second was only thanks to myself (Reaper) and the Lucio and Zarya on my team. Considering the skill of the players I get put with, there is no way that high gold can be my skill ceiling, if I may be so immodest, myself and the people I play with have had long conversations about this, we’re all misplaced. Too bad there are only 3 of us. It’s so complicated and tiring to think about and try to push through. It’s like the matchmaker has already decided a winner and loser by the start of the game.

Had a 22 loss streak (including placement matches on season wrap) with a team of friends (we were 3- and sometimes 4-stack) from (low) Diamond into Gold. Beat that! It was like some voodoo curse or something.

Yeah I hate that. Anyone who’s a high rank will tell me that it’s because I’m not good enough.
I’m sorry that my 4 gold medals, play of the game in most matches and 70% winrate as Reaper who I’ve been playing mostly these days (My winrate went from nearly 80% as him to the 70% during this streak) is still too bad for you. Just because you got put in high Platinum your first season…Sigh. I’m critical of my own performance because I’m that hellbent on improving and ranking up, but wiith the characters I play, I honestly can’t find anything else with them I can improve on in this rank. In higher ranks, absolutely, but in Gold, nope. I get put with Diamonds in Quick Play somehow and yet the worst players ever in competitive. I’m so tired

If anyone’s cursed, it’s me.
I suspected a very low win rate, then I started tracking it in a spreadsheet.
Sure enough, I float between 20% and 30% win rate

Well if you don’t have the time then start changing your goals to be more realistic. Climbing out of bronze into gold is a feat in itself and you should remember that!
If you browse the forums you will see there are many threads about the 50% winrate and how the matchmaker adjusts the team composition with that in “mind”. While it may seem unfair, it is there to keep things interesting. Everyone goes through this when they rise.
This is not a game about skill and carry only, it’s a game about teamwork. Yes, you are carrying your team, but are you being gracious about it? Sometimes what’s being tested here is not your aim or positioning but your interpersonal skills.

This is the issue. Teamwork is scarce, as I pointed out in the original post, I can’t stop getting throwers, people who blatantly refuse to work as a team. It takes one person to lose a game for an entire team and that just isn’t fair. My goals were realistic. 2 days until the season ends and 2470 SR? Just win 2 more games, get into Plat, then finish for the season there. But nooooooo it completely backfired on me because I was close to platinum after being Gold for 3 seasons and not really playing comp for 2 of them.
I also think the 50% winrate forced upon players is messed up, it is prohibiting people from climbing. If you’re winning almost every game and have a 70+ winrate, say, obviously you are misplaced and should be allowed to get the hell out of there and instead into where you belong so you actually do have a 50% winrate because, you know, that’s where you belong. You shouldn’t have to endure painful loss streaks with the worst, most uncooperative teammates imaginable just to get a 50% winrate in a rank you don’t belong in, and I’m not the only person having that issue. If you have an uncooperative team that lacks game sense and skill with that, you won’t win games. That applies to everyone. One, two or even 3 players can’t save the game from whoever is throwing or is simply not good. That’s just how it is.

If you’re winning almost every game then indeed you are misplaced; you were put with people who were so good they were carrying you. Matchmaker kicks in and puts you with a worse team to see the limit of your personal skill; you drop. Your impact in the team is not as good as matchmaker predicted, now you’re gradually being put with people who are slightly better than the ones who brought you down in the first place.
It’s a painful wave, like trying to swim out of a rip current, but it can be done. As you might have noticed on the competitive forums, the last week of the season is often a bad one because 1. Tryhards tilt faster, 2. Smurfs are there just to practice, and 3. Last-minute rusty players try to get some ranking done. Maybe at another time during the season those people weren’t so bad, but the matchmaker can’t really predict intention, can it?
Bottom line is, stop beating yourself. I know it sucks to be on the verge, I’ve gotten closer and closer to a shiny gold but I always end up finishing a season polishing my tiny silver chevron…
