I’ve started to play more tank the past few days, and the tanks I can play are:
D.va
Rein
Monkey
Zarya
I struggle to deal with good doomfists (if my DPS won’t switch to sombra).
As a tank player what’s my best option here? Was previously masters 5 when I last played a few seasons ago.

Hog or Mauga probably.
Maybe Orisa.
Zarya also works if you just bubble things before he hits them.

Rein - Just charge at him anytime he remotely attempts to use powerblock. You either pin him and he most likely dies from teammate help, or he dodges pin but never gets to use block.
Zarya - One of the hardest counters to doom. You can completely negate shield building from slam by just bubbling in front of it, you can completely negate his dives on your teammates, grav him solo after mid powerblock if you feel like it.
Dva - Just DM his dives. Completely negate them.
Monkey - Dive his backline. Cut off doom’s healing and he basically can’t play the game.

i think of that animation where doomfist disappears when he punches into a dva defense matrix. i was wheezing

I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s a future doom nerf.

Yea Dva can really save someone taking his shotgun hands to the face. Displace him as well.
Honestly D.va and monkey are my strongest tanks over all, and I just feel like he has an advantage when I try and play them. He can get the pick on my back line my faster than I can 90% of the time and I’m not sure if it’s a skill issue or if they are just not the pick.
I do have an easier time with rein, but zarya is tricky. Sometimes the enemy comp just isn’t suited to
Zarya, and I’ll struggle to get charge.
If you’re backline is getting picked fast by a doom, it’s 99% a skill issue on your backline itself.
Supports have probably the most tools in the game to deal with doom, multiple dps can either avoid him or counter him.

Doom is my most played Hero and I struggle the most with
Hog
Zarya
Mauga
not necessarily in that order
Honorable mention Orisa (is only a problem on certain maps where you can’t really avoid her)
But the best thing in general you can do is talk to your team and keep track of his cd’s

Why do Doom players act like he’s so garbage and that you should never die to him?
The hero is good, people that play him can be good. It’s not a skill issue
Like if you were dying to release lifeweaver, yeah that would be a skill issue but doomfist is actually GOOD

No one said that???
My point is simply, doom has a lot of counters. That is a factual statement. He has some of the most counters in the game.
So yes, outside of coordinated dives and team play, you shouldn’t be dying to a doom like that because that isn’t doom’s job in a team. But you still can if you don’t play right.
You have mobility? you can avoid doom. You have a boop? You can counter doom. You have a stun? You can counter doom. You can turn off his abilities? You can counter doom. You have a self heal? You can counter doom.
Just go Mauga and listen to the sweet sounds of DF dying whike Mauga sweetly says:
“Are you going to let me get away with that?”
Its such a smug interaction! I love it!
Reinhardt what can he do come and fight in your range, you can body him, also every time he dives into your backline you have free for all on his team.
In your hero pools, only dva can be a doom counter, but it requires a high level skill on dva. (both aim and game sense) Easier doom counters are hog, orisa because you can stun doom, but a very good doom might able to avoid your ablities.

Try playing orisa, hog, or junker queen if you can’t doom diff the enemy tank. If you’re still getting rolled, I’d just take the L. Because assuming that their doom isn’t smurfing, most likely it’s not just doom but also the rest of his team that’s diffing yours. There isn’t much you can do if there’s a huge team-diff.
For example, I take pride in being able to play sigma pretty well for my rank. But if the enemy has a better DPS and support, my stats on sigma will end up being worse than the enemy sigma’s.

Pick d.va, hold right click on the doomfist. Problem solved! Lol
A little bit of an exaggeration but yes d.va is probably the best with defense matrix to deny his final blows with his shotgun. Good dooms are a bit tough to counter but that’s the best you can do I feel.
Seriously though don’t underestimate the power of following doom around holding right click on d.va.

Doom can counter monkey or rein by engaging them but the value he’ll get is low.
As for how to counter him on Tank, don’t, really he can make you waste so much to kill him it’s usally better to just push his team and his supports so you can get more value than he’s getting and deny the healing/follow up he needs.
Counter diving doomfist is viable, but it depend upon backline vs backline. Its easier to hard counter Winston than Doomfist, but doomfist requires more skill to pull off. Chances are you can generally win on consistency.
You still give your team good value keeping the enemy team busy by removing healing from doomfist. Reinhardt works surprisingly well. Mostly because Reinhardt is difficult to bully from the doomfist perspective. If he’s wasting punches and control on Rein, then you are doing a good job.
A rein without an enemy tank to get in your way can do an awful lot with the potential to dive in and kill people off 2-3 swings/fire strikes. Its all free shatter value. Its still backline vs backline, but on more enclosed maps where players can’t spam you down from range as easily, I find Rein works well.
None of your heroes picks I think directly contest Doom directly and its all indirect value.

I do think Doom has the advantage against both of these characters, overall. His displacement is better than both D.Va’s and Winston’s. And yes, he is much better at assassinating a backline than they are. Doom sacrifices the defensive tools that D.Va and Winston get, for more aggressive tools.

I honestly do really well against Doomfists with my WBall.
I play in a weird manner where I taunt the Doom into punching me whenever possible. Which, every punch is a potential pick for Doom and another mobility ability used up.
So I do the proper thing as tank and just facetank it for my team. Albeit, I’m trusting them to handle the rest by taking out doom themselves or his backline while I draw Doomfist’s attention.
Likewise if he ignores me, then it leaves me open to harrass their backline. And I promise you my CDs are more forgiving then Doom’s. So with some proper control I can do some heavy damage even just distracting Doom’s lifeline in his supports is a big plus since Ball relies more heavily on healthpacks while Doom can’t.
