Seeing the Deadlock McCree skin that was just teased had me wondering about when the gang was actually formed. The Deadlock logo on McCree’s tattoo and his new skin both say the Deadlock Rebels were established in 1976 but when Ashe came out the Deadlock logo on her back lacked the date and her story states that McCree and her, along with a couple others, formed the gang in what couldn’t be more than 20-22 years ago.
Not really sure what to make of it unless McCree just threw out a random date for some reason?
I always just assumed McCree picked up the name/logo from an older gang that was founded in 1976 (maybe based off a cool leather jacket he found
).

Yeah, or maybe he thought making the group seem more established would lend them a stronger name since they were being lead by at least two teenagers?
Swear we had a retcon about the date on Ashe release.
But here we are again back with the Est. 1976

Go check on Reunion : Ashe and her goons have bandanas on their faces : they don’t have this 1976 date on their bandanas. Nor on their jackets. None of them. (i can’t link images, sorry)
On Route 66, there is no 1976 date either.
Only McCree has this number, both on his tattoo, his jacket and his bandana. It’s an addition only for him, there must be a reason for it, we don’t know what it means yet.

It wasn’t removed - it was never there. You can check in-game footage going back to when the map was released during the beta. The date was never on Route 66.
Oh, my bad, I’ll eddit then, thank you! My point is even more valid.
So this EST. 1976, and the eyepatch on his skull (“Deadeye” anyone?), it’s 100% a McCree thing, not a Deadlock thing.

It would be really nice if we got some clarification on this. McCree’s lore is still up in the air, despite him being in the spotlight fairly often.
I absolutely demand clarification about this discrepancy, his role in Deadlock as well as his age at the time. Because everything we consider canon at one point suddenly gets tossed up in the air out of nowhere.
I doubt these things are crucial story hints, so it’s simple questions that have simple answers.
