DDOS attack prevention techniques?

QP steamrolled other team, then DDOS came in, lost connection after re-login with high lag. expected game lost.

i have never lost connection before once, and i have 4G insta backup on my fibre line.

DDOS prevention techniques?

Contact your ISP, cause that’s not how DDOS works.

DDOS means Distributed - Denial of Service attack. If you BELIEVE that someone “mass-slammed” your router with one-way internet packet spamming techniques via PING clients. Than you should be contacting your ISP to find out if someone intentionally targeted you and perhaps notify Law enforcement.

There are ddos mitigation services out there, however if you are NOT a static hosting client, you do not need this service. Because by default on your router you probably are running a dynamic address and simply should DISCONNECT The modem for 1-2 minutes and turn it back ON.

With that said. Malware bytes has a couple of FREE tools to download and run on your PC such as their NEW Rootkit tool. I’ve been using it for about a year now on different “test bed” pc’s and it has been doing a decent job of catching stuff that other products such as Norton-Symantec, Kaspersky, Avira, AVG, AVAST and McAfee cannot catch.

Good luck, stay safe!

DDOS basically overloads the server with a lot of fake accounts, in order to prevent real accounts from accessing.

The last DDOS on Overwatch that I remember was back in 2016

First of all, use a VPN for everything that you do. Every single damn thing that you do, should be encrypted. Why? Because of the malicious individuals out there, who mean you no good.

Literally what this guy just said.

Like im MoP years of WoW Skype DDOSing was very common in mid to low ranks. It sucks.

Blaming a disconnection on being DDoS’d is a bit of a tall tale in my book. Losing connection, I am more suspecting there was routing issues instead. Remember to run a WinMTR test and post it in the Technical Support forum if you need help figuring out where and why you are disconnecting.

The last one I have on my books was in July of 2018 but it did not last nearly as long as the one you referenced to (the great DDoS attack of August 2016 lasted over two days long and if I recall correctly was a retaliatory attack after a cheaters ban wave days prior).

Disconnect issues can happen on your ISP side as well. It isn’t just a one way connection between you and Blizzard. All sorts of things can go wrong in between that are completely out of your’s and Blizzard’s control.

I might have been having a hiatus during that time. But yeah, 2016 had a massive DDOS attack.

Aussie servers had one in november if memory serves but it could have been extreme weather conditions as well as there was local flooding conditions.

Lizard Squad if im not mistaken were the ones

Because OW is not peer to peer being DDOS’d by other players is not a major concern as it is in peer to peer games like Destiny 2. Unless you do something outside the game, other players cannot get your IP to DDOS you.

That being said, be careful about being invited into rando discord servers… sometimes (well, really, really rarely) those are used to get IP addresses to DDOS you later.

It is very unlikely that it was a DDOS, since the attacker would first have to find out the IP address of the connected player. (Basically exploit a bug on the servers instance OR get it from somewhere else see Mitrovarr’s answer)
Then the attacker has to mess with the provider’s network, which is usually designed to redirect such attacks.
As long as it’s not really about a lot of money, I don’t see any reason why someone would do as described.

More Likely, DOS:
Few custom data packets are sent to the instance, causing the instance to restart. It’s unlikely, and Blizzard could detect it very quickly.
But it is even less likely to kick a single player out of the instance this way.

The most likely:
Fix your internet.

Additional note: VPN services are not the answer to all security questions.
And I think most would kick you off the network if you were under a DDOS attack.
