Ok so I’ve dc’d in the past, and it was a big deal, because of how infrequently it occurred. Since the release of the anniv patch I’ve dc’d multiple times a session. I usually stick to qp and arcade so I don’t know if it is limited to those modes. A friend of mine plays SCII a lot, and has noticed dc’ing in that game as well. However he has not experienced the dc’ing in games with other launchers (read: non-blizzard games), and our internet service is running smoothly (no interruption of streams or other content).
Has anyone else experienced the heightened dc’ing problems in OW or other blizzard titles?
Doubtful it is a launcher issue since one can just turn battlenet off without it disconnecting the game you are playing. Heck, you can even launch all Blizzard games without ever using battlenet.
The main similarity is that Blizzard has game servers for different games in the same building or location. However, this doesn’t immediately mean the disconnects happen on their servers. There is a good possibility that there is an issue with a server between your router and the final server you play the game on.
I believe it is better to first determine why you and your friend are disconnecting so much all of the sudden. You can do this by running the program WinMTR by using the IP address of the server as shown in the netgraph (Ctrl + Shift +N) when you are in a match. Do this for about 10 minutes or until you crash. You can then copy the results and post them here. This way Blizzard or an MVP can help in determining why you are disconnecting so often.
A WinMTR test will be able to pinpoint the source of your disconnections. Here are the steps:
WinMTR instructions:
- Download WinMTR from Download WinMTR-v092.zip (WinMTR) (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
- Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
- Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
- Run the WinMTR.exe
- Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.

note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
- Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
- Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
- Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between:

If in the event you can’t even connect to Overwatch and get into any game mode at all, please use one of the following IP addresses based on your geographical region:

I think you might be experiencing an issue affecting players with Arris modems. Can you provide the Router make/model (generally seen on a sticker that is on the side or bottom)?
omg it is the modem!
and i have one of them
AHHHHHHH
log into the modem/router, and change the lease time
