I was Bastion in Sentry mode. I got killed by three Reaper shots. The damage doesn’t add up.
Bastion had 200 health and 100 armor. He also takes 20% less damage because of Ironclad, his passive in Sentry form.
Reaper shoots 20 pellets per shot that deal 7 damage each at close range. Armor halves each pellet’s damage, 20 x 7 / 2 = 70, then Ironclad makes it 56 (70 x 0,2 = 14).
So after the first shot, I’m left with 100 - 56 = 44 armor. I’m not so sure how to calculate it at this point, so let’s just say it’s normal health.
244 health. Two shots remaining. 20 x 7 = 140 x 2 = 280 - 20% = 224. Even without the remaining armor I shouldn’t have died.
So either the Ironclad passive isn’t working, either the armor calculation isn’t working, or this game is total bull feces. With all the inconsistencies I’ve witnessed, I’m leaning toward the latter.
Or… maybe someone else poked you while you were busy with the reaper. Or maybe reaper was damage boosted. Or maybe you were discorded. Or maybe you weren’t full hp before reaper started shooting. Or maybe he landed some headshot pellets.
The game is pretty good at doing hp math. People don’t die randomly to damage that shouldn’t kill them.
Except it isn’t. I also posted about losing 200 hp to one single Helix Rocket with Discord on. It was confirmed when I watched the killcam replay, same for the Reaper. Flanks me solo, kills me in three shots.
If the game is so good at damage calcs, why can a Brigitte 1v1 a Winston and kill him while remaining at full health? She supposedly gains 16 health per second, he deals 60 damage per second, yet the other day a Brigitte just soloed me in like 5 seconds and when I died she was unscathed.
Bastion has a critbox on the back of his body, Any pellets that hit the Critbox will do double damage, this should more than make up for the discrepancy in your math.
Brigitte has 50 armour so while she still has armour health Winston will only be doing 30DPS. Winston also has to reload and has 1 second of downtime when he gets stunned by brigitte.
She heals for a consistent 16 hps and winston does 30dps with gaps of 0 dps when he is reloading or stunned. If winston does not land a jump or melee weave it’s conceivable that he could be doing effectively no damage to birgitte.
Hope that helps.
(If you have an issue like this then recording it can usually make it easier for people to explain what’s happening or if it is a bug help it get fixed)

I have seen this so many times. For example, yesterday in a Quickplay match I pinned DVA mech with Rein charge and de-meched her. As Rein I was swinging my hammer at a baby DVA. I had her pinned against the wall. She had nowhere to run and I swung my hammer at point blank range. It took 4 - 5 swing hits to finally kill her. What happened to my damage?
Same thing happened to Bridgette. I got in a 1 vs 1 Rein agaist Bridgette. She did not use her ULT and did not have extra shields. I was at full health (500 HP) and she had less than half health (75 HP). We started swinging melee attacks at each other at point blank range. I hit her about 6 times and I ended up getting killed first. She was left with about 20 HP at the end of the fight.
Full health Rein losses damage battle agaist low health Bridgette.
It seems the damage I was doing as Rein is not 75 HP per swing hit.
Then in another match the Rein on our team got into a 1v1 with Brigette and killed her in 2-3 swings!
Why is there such inconsistency with the damage?
Because Blizzard is way too busy buffing/nerfing heroes for pro play to look into this kind of report. They just don’t care. You bought the game? Too bad, just deal with it. Team Fortress 2 is way more consistent than Overwatch.
