Decreasing Mei’s Primary Fire damage from 100dps >> 55dps is the biggest damage nerf any hero has seen in OW2. 45% Decrease!? This will kill her viability
Her main utility is not herself securing kills, but in her wall to stop retreating. Heroes like JQ, Road, Doom, etc, tanks with no real means of blocking indefinitely, suffer against Mei because she isolates people as her main tactic.
She was never meant to win 1v1s much in OW2, she acts more like a second tank than a second DPS.
Good, she is easily one of the most unfun characters to play against and I would love to see her less. It isn’t the Mei mains fault, Blizzard just refuses to rework annoying heroes and instead relies on their pretty terrible balance team coming up with the worst possible solutions to any problem they come across.
Usually yes, but 100 DPS+a slow was stupid. She was overly oppressive because of it, so you’d have to either nerf her damage or lose the slow.
Blizzard chose the hammer, over the chisel again. I don’t get why, Queen nerfs were pretty well thought out, to nerf her but not nuke her.
Mei has struggled for ages. First off they removed her freeze, a pretty iconic part of her kit that let her set up kills.
Second her Ult which already had several counters in terms of being eaten by dva, deflected by genji, stunned, hacked etc while animation going off. Just walking out of the area or any kind of movement ability.
Now has to deal with AoE cleanse like Kirko, life grip and so on. It does pathetic dmg and honestly struggles to even freeze your targets let alone kill them.
Mei has needed a bastion level rework, but Blizzard refused to touch her. Thus she has a janky projectile and an “ice flame thrower” that isn’t allowed to do dmg.
I would argue that Mei mains freak out when Mei gets touched in any way, shape, or form, so it’s not worth it to try reworking her, instead of dealing with the backlash.
It would have been cool if they had like I don’t know, a 2-3 year period where they could focus completely on making a new game where they could rework a lot of the heroes while their old game just kinda sat in stasis.
Well yes, hero reworks are basically a “death of a character”. But it hasn’t stopped blizzard from doing it before. Sym now is nothing like orginal Sym. Torb lost his armor packs, level 3 turret and so much more.
Reworks to the level they are basically new hero’s. I mean you can’t get any more extreme than changing the primary fire like with Symetra.
This doesn’t seem healthy having a DPS that can’t win duels. Taking duels and securing kills should be something all DPS can do, each in their own way.
The lock on had to go, period. There is no arguing that.
Yeah, too bad we have had constant updates and they work hard constantly making new stuff right?
You do know that there are different types of DPS right?
Flank, ranged, burst, control, and then there are people like Cassidy are who are pure duelists.
Mei is more in control, as I’ve said before, her power is in her walls and acting like a second tank/isolating players.
It was a feature, one that put Sym at extreme danger to try and close the gap and a counter pick against high mobility hero’s.
It’s honestly not much different than massive hit box attacks like Rein’s hammer or Winston’s tesla cannon. Perhaps some numbers could of been fixed on it’s ramp up dmg. But out side of “Bronze to GM” streams you really never saw Sym go crazy and kill every one.
I would love to see where that periods design time went. It definitely was not spent reworking heroes for 5v5, from the balance with season 1, that was all done within the first few months leading up to the launch. There is no way they were working on it before.
That did 190 dps and stayed locked on through walls and around corners for an extra second after breaking LoS. You could literally walk through a team with ease over and over with it. Moira’s beam does the same thing with staying attached after leaving LoS, but at least it only does like 40 dps, not 190.
From what I gather it was a last minute thing. What ever work on Ow2 was going on in 2018 to 2019 seemed to be 6v6. Then they utterly failed to balance around double shield.
Much like with Goats, they gave up. Role que was the solution to Goats, and 5v5 was the solution to double shield. IT was fairly obvious it wasn’t a planned thing. Pretty much every hero needed a rework for the new team comp.
Yet only a handful got reworked for launch, and most of those were a buggy mess like Bastion. Or brokenly OP like they had zero play testing.
I’m pretty sure the dev got rolled by some Gold Mei players and decided to balance because of that.
They also play Junkrat and their combo doesn’t kill anything in the shot combo and decided to buff him.
‘‘Genji is super oppressive, I will kill him in the next patch. Junker Queen is not powerful, I will power creep her!’’. And so on and on.
No one asked for Mei’s changes. She was fine, she was being accepted by the majority of the community, and she was being played by pros.
Uh Moria is not a lock on… been pretty heavily proven time and again. It’s just a cone based attack, not much different than Zarya.
Only difference is the beam “looks” smaller, and always targets center mass. Even if your targeting the pixel of their elbow.
But yes Sym’s was a lock on. Kind of like Mercy’s beam tbh. Thing is she had zero mobility, remember Sym’s TP was an Ult back then to get from spawn.
Her only “defense” was a barrier kind of like Sigmas, but didn’t stop. Other than that she was a 200hp hero asking to die at ranges like that. It also went 30,60,180 I believe without dmg boost. If I remember right. Meaning it still took a bit over a second to kill some one at max charge.
Which is pretty much a slower time to kill than a double head tap by Mcree or the like.
This is the only explanation I’ll accept. Nothing else makes sense. It has become painfully clear the devs don’t play the game, or they are exceptionally awful at the game and are practically hardstuck at Bronze 5.
I never said it locked on… So… Was just stating her beam lingers, which is well known. Stay on topic.
Throw a shield and walk behind it, get potg, happened time and time again. Team wipes from just walking forward, not aiming, and holding M1. So much skill expression, and fun to play against.
Does not matter when… You. Do. Not. Have. To. Aim. and deal 190 dps.
