People asked 6v6 to return since OW2 was released. When a tank was removed from the game, it was a hard hit for tanks, we’ve struggled with 5v5 format in many aspects and wanted 6v6 to return.
Blizzard announced months ago they would consider experiments with 6v6. Latest update includes a 6v6 test. However, this 6v6 is no-limits open-role 6v6, not at all what we wanted: 2 players per role just like before OW2 was released.
I think this was done on purpose so people try 6v6, lose interest and reduce the amount of people asking it. I consider this an offensive response to players who really wanted to play again real 6v6
Now, being realistic, 6v6 is never coming back, there are not enough tank players, and I get it, we sacrificed the tanks for the benefit of dps and supports. However, they didn’t need to lie to us with fake promises of a 6v6.
What’s funny is the dev team that created this game decided to change it to 5v5 and the team that didn’t create the game is giving credence to the misguided people on the forum calling for its return. Lazy players want 6v6. Competitive players know 5v5 is better.
6v6 is an easier solution as it naturally restores meaningful interaction amongst all roles.
6v6 or 5v5, it won’t matter if both are done badly. So far, 5v5 has been nothing short of a poor gameplay experience for 1 role, 2 roles, or all of them, each at different times.
5v5 will never work unless they can restore meaningful interaction, which means no supertanks, and no get-out-jail-free cards.
I take it you didn’t bother to read the entire blogpost?
Q: Is Overwatch Classic the team’s answer to bringing back 6v6?
A: Overwatch Classic is separate from our broader 6v6 plans. Overwatch Classic is meant to be a nostalgic experience, taking heroes, players, and the game back to moments in the game’s history for limited time events
Q: Is it a way to test bringing back 6v6 permanently in Overwatch 2?
A: Nope! We are running separate 6v6 test modes in future seasons to gather feedback and gauge player interest on that format. See our recent Director’s Take for more information on those tests
Lazy players are looking for way to make tanks fall over with ease, without understanding that people actually have to want to play tank for the sake of queue time or a good team comp, especially in 6v6
I see the real test is coming in season 14, I thought this was a bad joke from blizzard, they kind of lost all credibility after the fake promises of pve.
I didn’t say tanks worth less now but the experience was downgraded by far. Like there are hitscan and projectile dps, main support and off support (name them the way you want, categories can vary) we had also complementary tanks. But now you can’t help but notice something important is missing. Also counter picking got way stronger.
It was the lazy, no swap one tricks of popular meta trash heroes the ones that wanted 5v5, because of the promises of not having to think about team comps or have to cooperate with their team, or have anything to bar their way to free kills with overtuned hitscan/flanker DPS.
6v6 ‘‘didnt work’’ because of those players choosing to throw and have tantrums until Blizz catered to all their whims. Because the Ashemaker 76 players didnt want to swap out the hitscan DPS in front of 2 shield tanks and didnt want their counterpicks being playable.
5v5 literally exists to cater to the laziness of popular hero mains.
I don’t want locked 2/2/2 ever again. It didn’t work and couldn’t work no matter how many balance changes are made. From a matchmaking standpoint, it makes no sense to require the same number of players on the least populated role as on the most popular. To me, 2/2/2 is not real 6v6.
