Years ago,
Back in OW1, I was in gold and even touched plat, with a slight hover over silver during a bad comp season, but still enjoyed the game and playing my favorite characters without the counters being too hard. Now, I have to swap off my favorite characters to stand a chance.
I am also penalized more for having teammates that suck. Or, they are being hard counter-picked. If I have to lock in and put in more effort just to mitigate being countered, or have to compensate for teammates not switching/just being bad, I should not be penalized for that. Okay? If I want to play Pokemon, Iâd get off my PC and grab my switch. Hard counters are still a legitimate issue that effect thousands of players to this day. If many of us are VOLUNTARILY giving money to this studio, they should at LEAST respect what we have to say in this regard, because OverWatch is NOTHING without itâs player base. The dev team, the senior management, and the execs seem to forget that and have taken the player base and the consumers for granted.
Another thing:
YOU DO NOT GET TO TELL US WHAT WE WANT. WE KNOW WHAT WE WANT. AND WE ALSO WANT YOU TO DELIVER ON YOUR PROMISES, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES. In my 26 years on this Earth, I have never, ever seem a game company disrespect the player base (and even their own developer team) as much as Activision Blizzard, and somehow, still get off scot-free because they knowingly take their most loyal, forgiving, supportive, and gracious customers for granted at every turn.
The current people leading OverWatch are running it straight to the ground. Fake sequel, comp isnât emotionally rewarding (back then, I could still be fulfilled after a losing match if it was a fair fight with little-to-no counter-picking), PVE got canceled after it was promised and was one of the biggest selling points for OverWatch 2 in the first place⌠And donât tell me about how it was a free upgrade, when people paid, a lot of people paid for OverWatch 1 only, and didnât even consent to wanting OverWatch 2 introduced, myself included. Also, the introduction of FOMO with limited time skins when the original vision of the game was for you to be able to leave the game for months, come back, and not miss a beat, is pretty insulting⌠Who do I have to talk to to get Mr. Jeff back in here and get this all sorted out?
And before the Blizzard meat riders come after me, yes, 5v5 gives more agency to each player, reduces queue times, and speeds up matches. Yet also, 5v5 makes each person much more susceptible to being hard-countered. Not to go without mentioning, if you shaped the game around your playersâ experience, you wouldnât have had to create and release a FAKE SEQUAL TO KEEP PEOPLE INTERESTED IN YOUR GAME!!! âOh itâs not the devs, itâs the management!â Alright devs, then fight for your game with the players. Itâs clear that none of the backlash has taught your board members or investors a lesson.
And remember, people have to pay bills. So maybe, donât offer skin bundles that cost as much as AAA games, or $20 skins? Youâre telling me that the OverWatch team puts as much effort into skins as other companies do into GAMES??? Holy hell man. There are no excuses for these mediocre attempts to exploit your players, especially when they constantly give your game the time of day. âOh if you think the skins are expensive then donât buy themâ, missed the point bud, Iâm saying that charging the price of entire games for cosmetics is utterly ridiculous and greedy. And battle passes donât help because that also leeches off the FOMO issue.
But yeah, Iâm getting sick and tired of the way this game has went since OW2 âlaunchedâ. Even when OW1 was itâs most dead, it was still more enjoyable than the way the game is right now.
As someone whoâs played since 2017, Iâve had enough. I want to uninstall so bad but even to this day, after all these years, Iâm still holding out hope that the bravest people in the dev team put their put down with the people above them, and tell them whatâs up.
This was a game that was meant to be enjoyed by all, with any playstyle, or accessibility. And right now, the people who seem to be not enjoying the game the most, are people who just want nothing more than to play the 1 or 2 characters that they really, really enjoy playing without being berated or insulted by their teammates.
I cried while reading back through this because I just realized that this isnât the game I fell in love with 7 years ago, and now, itâs something much different and for nothing but the worse.
Regards,
A very tired player
