I feel like sneaking is part of the hero fantasy for a bunch of characters in this game. Also, supports don’t need the handy cap, they are doing just fine, arguably better than everyone else right now.
History: back when we all first made the switch from OW1 > OW2. They were thinking of ways to make things easier for supports, so they are not constantly being flanked.
Turns out, players adapted, got better at positioning with 5 players and we don’t need that change anymore.
Now we are just left with the total removal of sneaking from the game of Overwatch. Since crouch is effectly useless in this department.
I’m not saying tracer should sound silent or anything. I just really think they should revert back to OW1 sound levels. It would feel nice for crouch pathing to matter again.
I think it feels bad that hiding still exists, its just really unrealistic how rotating my camera (your character moves their feet when they 180) causes a loud pitter patter that alerts everyone in a 10 mile radius to my location.
While at the same time when I’m fighting a Moira, her exit fade sound effect is so quite I cannot track it even when I close my eyes and try my hardest to listen for it. (don’t tell me to look for her visual, she can change directions)
i just heard some really good advice, and i’ll share it with you:
try adapting to the game’s rules. no you can’t ‘silence’ Tracer or reaper. Take trickier angles and don’t attack unless your team has already engaged.
i have. i just think its a bad idea. they completely removed sneaking from the game. sneaking was cool, it felt cool, added depth, and made you check your corners. i dont like a layer of strategy being removed. i want it back.
this has nothing to do with getting gud or not.

i won’t argue with you. what you want isn’t going to happen. blizzard leans into the competitive aspect of this game, and audio is hugely important to the way the game plays.
you’re SUPPOSED to hear Tracer’s footsteps, they’re supposed to be loud and distict. Same with Reaper.
This game won’t work very well without the audio-heavy aspect

Last I checked, crouching is still completely silent. maybe your crouch key is bugged and doesnt stay down all the time.

Nah check again. my friend and i can hear tracers crouch foot steps through 3 walls.
Also, hearing Widowmakers heals clack from across the map is great, saves my life a lot.
But in my experience the crouch buttons only function is to dodge bullets. You can hear anyone sneaking up on you. (i play both the ana and the genji often in this scenario).
This was not always the case, you used to be able to sneak, and it was cool, it made me feel like a ninja. I want it back.
Nope, I checked with a friend in FFA custom whilst queuing.
Whilst your own crouched footstep audio is muted as normal in your own client, enemies can hear almost full-volume footsteps and movement, plus you can hear thier crouched unmuted when you should not be able to. Tested with Hanzo and Tracer, I guess this is universal though you may want to check/test for yourself.
Seems like a bug? Needs fixing or reverting back either way.

They did it on purpose when we all moved from OW1 > 2. It was a way to help supports have an easier time without a tank to guard the flank.
So they were afraid supports would get flanked too much and complain. now supports are like one of the strongest roles and i personally dont think we need the loud footsteps anymore.
I miss sneaking being part of my ninja hero fantasy
I don’t think it’s been like that all through OW2, has it?

It must be a bug of some sorts then. I am quite sure i dont hear people crouching and generally people in the games also do not. I’ll see if i get to really verify it.
Do you play with console / or pc with atmos on/off?
yeah, i just specifically remember being annoyed about it, and thinking it was a another bad idea for OW2
