[CROUCH ANIMATION BUG] Crouching causes screen flickers

Hello everyone,

About a month ago I noticed a strange, almost bizarre, issue regarding crouching in Overwatch 2 which results in brief screen flickering. After contacting Customer Support, I am certain that this is a bug and not a technical issue on my end.

The problem:

When pressing the crouch button while the character is standing up, the camera goes up for 1-2 frames and then skips down to continue the normal crouch animation.
The opposite happens when releasing the crouch button while crouched - the camera goes even further down for 1-2 frames and then skips back up to smoothly continue the animation.
Repeatedly pressing and releasing the crouch button in a quick manner results in very noticable screen flickering.

It is entirely client side and does not affect normal gameplay but can be quite annoying to deal with especially in team fights or precision based 1v1s.

Almost every crouch instance is plagued by the problem even though the game runs buttery smooth. I have recorded a video showcasing the problem but unfortunately links are not allowed.

I also noticed that every time a crouch begins, the distance between the starting frame and the ‘wrong’ frames is less than the distance between the starting frame and the first ‘normal’ frame. The same can be observed when uncrouching.

This makes me believe than the ‘wrong’ frames have the right sequence but wrong direction. (up instead of down when crouching and down instead of up when uncrouching)

Troubleshooting I have done:

  • Updating graphics drivers from 528.49 (Currently running NVIDIA driver version 531.18)
  • Downgrading graphics drivers to 527.56 (I noticed the issue at the end of January)
  • Disabling G-Sync
  • Disabling Vsync (NVIDIA control panel, in-game Vsync is always off)
  • Disabling Low Latency Mode
  • Disabling Nvidia Reflex
  • Disabling Reduce Buffering
  • Enabling Triple Buffering
  • Changing crouch to Toggle
  • Changing monitor refresh rate from 240hz down to 200hz, 144hz, 120hz, 100hz, 60hz

I am certain that this is NOT intended behavior, or atleast it was not prior to the end of January when I first noticed it. Analyzing frame by frame 1-2 videos of some Overwatch 2 content creators on Youtube from the last month also confirms my findings.

I will greatly appreciate it if anyone else can share their experience. This is by far the weirdest bug I have ever seen.
