Crossplay means mouse keyboard vs controller?

Or are they mandating mouse keyboard now? I’m so confused why this is a good idea.

It only really applies to console players who are grouped with pc players.

Console players who solo-queue, or only group up with console players, will never go against PC players.

thanks for clarifying that for me. I was reading mixed things on the web. Sounds like console overwatch had long queue times and was dying.

Yup. All consoles will have a merged matchmaking for Quickplay and Competitive, unless they specifically opt out if that.

I’m also confused. I think they are making a bad mistake on not allowing console players to use mouse and keyboard. We’ve been asking for this for ages.

FAQ Q: Can a console player (controller) group up with a PC player (mouse & keyboard) and play together?

Yes, but only in non-Competitive game modes. Any group consisting of both PC and console players will be placed into the PC player matchmaking pool. Mouse & keyboard players will not be able to join the console player matchmaking pool, regardless of who is in their group.

Meaning when you are with PC players, you are good to use a mouse and keyboard.
When you are with only other consoles, you cannot use a mouse and keyboard.

Really? Oh, thats better. They should have made this more clear. Everyone playing on the full crossplay pool can play mouse and keyboard then?

Neither.

Console v Console games, PC v PC games.

In the rare occasion that Console players have a PC player in their friend group, they will get mixed games on the PC balance with aim assist turned off.

How it is going to work is that if you are in a crossplay match between a mix of PC and Console players, all aim assist will be turned off for controllers (regardless of platform). Regardless of the match in question, console players cannot directly use a keyboard and mouse unless you use a licensed peripheral (such as a Hori Tac Pro), which even then the Overwatch team does not take a liking to, but its not against the rules either.

What happens if a PC player uses a controller, will they only be matched with console players and still have aim assist available?

No, all players will still have aim assist disabled.

Thanks Wyoming, just 1 more thought for clarification.

So if I wanted to use my PC with a controller to just have a higher fidelity gaming experience, but only be competitively matched against other controller players (regardless of system). You’re saying that won’t happen, I’ll still be classified as PC, and be matched with M&K players still, right?

That is correct. When you are on PC, you can switch back or even use both a controller and mouse or controller and keyboard at the same time. Heck, you can even use Doritos or a dance pad, and that is why the matchmaking is based on the platform and not the input device.

I would rather they give the option to restrict yourself to certain input type also. I’d love the idea of playing on my powerful PC, but as I prefer to play with a controller, I don’t want to be matched against M&K players for obvious reasons.

I am on console getting solo queued QP games with PC players, I have clips of them clearly using mouse aim, where can I report this officially as a bug? It’s in beta so problems are understandable, but I’m seeing a lot of replies saying its not happening, but it definitely is in some circumstances, at least for me.

Thanks
