Anyone who uses 240hz monitor can give some thought on this?
I have 3700x with 3800mhz cl16 ram 5700xt and im getting frequent drop to low 200 during a team fight on low setting.
Now blizzard considers the range of fps greater than 60 as “enthusiast level gaming", as such not much is known about this. Blizzard sure as hell are not going to release proper system requirement for player on high refresh rate monitor.
Your GPU will have a much higher impact on FPS than your CPU.

Both are important, but OW is not very demanding on the GPU. Typically the CPU is the limiting factor of high framerates in this game.
Unfortunately I can’t give you any specifics since I dont have a CPU fast enough to maintain 240fps at all times. I can usually get around 180-200 with my 4770k, so I’d suspect most modern high end CPUs can do it, especially if you OC.

Actually…Blizzard games have a good history of taking a higher toll on cpu than gpu. So this might not be true.

I’m aware of that. But upgrading from say, an i7, 2600k to an i7 9700k isn’t going to magically increase the frame rate by a hundred FPS. You’ll get maybe 10-20 frames at best.
Edit: OP has a 3700x. There is no processor on the market that will let them maintain a 240 DPS if they’re dropping to 200.
What’s your render scale at?
Get Intel 9900K for OW.
And something better than 57ppxt, like RTX2080?
Im guessing that’s the only reason anyone still buying intel.

Going from a 2600k to a 9700k will give you huge gains, my dude. Although CPUs haven’t advanced quite as quickly as they used to, that’s still a 7 generational jump.

I have 3700x and rtx 2080 super in 1080p i have no issue running game 240fps just sometimes happens massive frame drop no reason but usually 240fps stable
Im guessing that’s the only reason anyone still buying intel.
Ryzen memory latency is 4x times higher. There is no going around that. Either wait for Ryzen 4th gen or invest into your OW-only rig
A 9900K or 9900KS would be the first choice but for Overwatch even an overclocked 9700K should be enough.
Of course, it would require a new motherboard and Intel boards are a dead end at this point with no upgradability so if you want to upgrade again in future then you will have to upgrade the motherboard again.
If you want to stick to AMD (and understandably so) then I’d consider getting a 3900X.
AMD chips run hot and are prone to hotspots, are you thermal throttling?
If you have freesync, turn it off and see if it helps, I know it seems like a nice function, but people have problems and turning it off helps.
From what I am reading 5700xt’s arn’t very stable among other problems.
Try setting a custom max FPS in game for 210 and see if it stabilizes. 210 is better than fluctuating frames.
Remember, you get what you pay for and bandwagons are plenty.
Most of the difference between AMD and Intel are just stability, PCI-E lanes, electricity needed and heat generation.
Well for most users. it is just about finding a cool chip that wont overheat and are stable.
1 bad generation, after years of outperforming, just means you skip that year and wait to see if they get it together next year.
You’re kidding right? Please tell me you’re kidding.
Nobody in their right mind would get a 9900K to play overwatch … thats just incredibly overkill.
I played overwatch for the first two years with a i5 6600K and it ran perfectly.
I even tested how far I could push it with my two gtx 1080’s and managed 60FPS at 8K ( 7680 x 4320 x 60hz ) WITH A 6600K.
Are you people being paid by intel? Just asking?
This is some terrible advice I’ve read so far.
Nobody … Absolutely nobody needs these top end enthusiast CPU’s for overwatch.
A 7th / 8th / 9th gen i5 ( or amd equiv, I don’t know modern day AMD CPU’s ) is MORE than enough for overwatch.

I have a 1080ti GPU i7 7770 4.2hz CPU 32ram, and 240hz monitor
I avg 200-240fps but dip to 180 from time to time
You need top of the line i9 CPU with a 1080ti (minimum) to get a solid 300fps in ow
No … You don’t. Stop spreading mis-information.
I have a 9700K with two gtx 1080’s currently but As per my previous post I’ve been using the i5 6600K for the first 2 years of playing overwatch @ 1440p @ 144hz and with the fps uncapped I’m hitting solid 300fps with the odd dip to 260 for half a second. Not noticable at all.
I only upgraded cpu for battlefield and cod mw warzone.

I’m basing my stats on what I’ve experienced with my setup, and what I’ve seen other people achieve. There’s a website dedicated to showing you what fps you will get in a game (based off real reports) with various GPUs and CPUs… and literally only 5% (or less) can get more than 240fps in OW on lowest settings
I’m not spreading misinformation, I’m saying 90% of people out there can’t get what you get.
My PC is supposed to be able to handle it but no matter what I do (everything optimized), it just can’t. Many people have this problem.
Yeah, iirc OW runs better in Intel and NVidia’s hardware. Not being a fanboy or anything, my PC is actually a R5 2600 (OC’d to 4.1GHz) and a Vega 56 (OC’d to 1690MHz core and 950MHz memory and undervolted). My PC tops out at 220 or so FPS if I let it go loose with a LOT of variability. I play locked to 175FPS (my monitor is 165Hz) and I still get a few drops during big teamfights, but rarely under 150FPS.
Ryzen’s 3rd gen is almost as good as Intel for hitting high FPS but it’s still not there yet, I believe an i5 9400F consistently beats the 3600 in those high FPS scenarios, and adding more cores like going to a R9 is not gonna help. Your best bet is overclocking your CPU with a watercooler if you haven’t already, and wait for the Ryzen 4th gen because it’s rumored to have some big gains. Especially since you already have a fast RAM, though I don’t know if getting one with less latency will help.
If you’re running intel hardware anything i5 6600k or better will get you 300fps at 1080p
If you’re running nvidia hardware I wouldn’t use less than a 1070 ti for 300fps at 1080p
Your results may vary with AMD hardware.
We’re talking about high FPS here, 250+. It’s a whole different ball game, you need a damn good processor for that. And OW needs big processor and RAM speeds for that.
